Window Hardware Finish Options — Picked When the Windows Are Ordered

You are replacing the windows and want the cranks and locks to match the cabinet pulls and the door hardware, not whatever comes standard.

Reply within one business day. Or call / text 763-204-2099.

Window hardware finish options are chosen on the order for new windows, and each line has its own list: color-matched only on some, metal finishes like oil rubbed bronze, black or satin nickel on others. JMB Builders brings the samples to the measure, orders through ABC Supply and installs across the Twin Cities metro. Priced per opening; send photos and we reply within one business day, or book a free in-home estimate.

  • Priced per opening, windows supplied
  • Finish picked per line, on the order
  • Cranks, locks and lifts in one finish

Hardware is the part of a window you touch: the crank and lock lever on a casement or awning, the sash locks and lifts on a double hung, the latch on a slider. The finish is set when the window is ordered, and the list depends on the line. Some lines only offer hardware color-matched to the frame. Others offer real metal finishes.

From the makers' lists: Andersen's 100 Series offers White, Sandtone, Dark Bronze, Black, Satin Nickel and Antique Brass. The 400 Series has up to nine finishes depending on the unit, including Oil Rubbed Bronze, Satin Nickel and Black. Pella's Lifestyle Series lists Champagne, White, Brown, Matte Black, Oil-Rubbed Bronze and Satin Nickel. Pella 250 and ProVia Aspect are color-matched, and ProVia ecoLite is white only.

So if oil rubbed bronze cranks matter, that narrows the line. This page is about new windows; changing hardware on old windows is a different job, and sometimes a repair is enough, and we will tell you. We buy through ABC Supply. Andersen is confirmed at our Minnesota ABC branches; for any other brand we confirm the line with our ABC branch before the quote is final.

  • Photos of each window inside

What JMB supplies

  • Hardware finish samples for the lines you are considering, at the in-home measure
  • Finish written on the line-item quote for every opening
  • One order so every crank, lock and lift matches

  • Removal and haul-away of the old windows
  • Photos of the finished windows in your job folder

How it is priced: per opening

Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:

  • The line: color-matched hardware only, or metal finishes
  • Metal finish upgrades on lines that charge for them
  • Fold-away or specialty crank handles
  • Window style and count
  • Matching patio door hardware on the same order
  • Insert or full-frame install for each opening

Send a photo of the door handle or cabinet hardware you want to match. Lead time depends on the brand and finish and is written on the quote.

How long it takes

Hardware goes on with the windows: three to five windows a day once the order arrives. Separately shipped hardware is installed the same day.

Situations and options

Color-matched

Hardware the same color as the interior frame: white on white, tan on tan. Standard on lines like Pella 250 and ProVia Aspect. It disappears into the window.

Oil rubbed bronze

A dark brown metal finish next to stained wood or bronze door hardware. Listed on the Andersen 400 Series and Pella Lifestyle Series, among others.

Black

Matte or satin black to go with black frames or black door handles. Andersen 100 and 400 Series and Pella Lifestyle list black hardware.

Satin nickel or brass tones

Satin Nickel on Andersen 100, 400, Pella Lifestyle and Impervia. Antique Brass on Andersen 100; Champagne on Pella Lifestyle. Goes with brushed-nickel or warm-metal door hardware.

Fold-away crank

A casement crank handle that folds flat so blinds and shades clear it. Pella Reserve lists a fold-away crank; Simonton 5500 casements use a nesting fold-away handle.

Window Hardware Finish Options — Picked When the Windows Are Ordered: questions, answered

What hardware finishes can I get on replacement windows?

It depends on the line. Color-matched hardware is standard on most vinyl lines. Lines like the Andersen 100 and 400 Series and Pella Lifestyle add metal finishes such as Oil Rubbed Bronze, Satin Nickel, Black and brass tones. We bring the samples for the lines you are looking at.

Can I get oil rubbed bronze cranks on new casement windows?

On some lines. Andersen's 400 Series and Pella's Lifestyle Series both list Oil Rubbed Bronze. Many vinyl lines only offer hardware color-matched to the frame, so wanting bronze cranks can decide the line.

Should window hardware match the door hardware?

In the same room, it usually looks best when it does, especially a patio door next to windows. Ordering the windows and patio door together lets you pick one finish for both. The entry door handleset can match or not; it is seen from a different place.

Can I change the window hardware finish after the windows are installed?

Sometimes, if the maker sells that hardware separately for your unit, but it is extra cost and lead time. It is far easier to decide at the measure, when the finish goes on the order. We write it on the quote for every opening so you can check it before we order.

Can I put black hardware on white windows?

On lines that let you pick hardware separately from the frame, yes. The Andersen 100 and 400 Series list black hardware for their windows. On lines where hardware is color-matched to the interior, white windows get white hardware.

What is a fold-away crank handle on a casement window?

A crank handle that folds flat against the operator cover when you are done. It keeps the handle out of the way of blinds, shades and curtains. Pella Reserve and Simonton 5500 casements list fold-away handles; other lines vary, so we check before ordering.
