Replace Just One Window — Single Window Replacement, Matched

One window is rotted, fogged past fixing or cracked, and the rest of the house is fine.

Reply within one business day. Or call / text 763-204-2099.

Yes, we replace just one window. JMB Builders takes single-window jobs across the Twin Cities metro: we measure the opening, match the new window to the ones beside it in color, glass, grille pattern and sightlines as closely as current lines allow, install it insert or full frame, and trim it to match. Priced per window, quoted from photos or at a free in-home estimate.

  • One window is a real job, not a favor
  • Matched to the windows next to it
  • Priced per window, window supplied

Plenty of contractors will not come out for one window. We do. A single window is usually the one that took the weather: the rotted sill on the west side, the kitchen window over the sink, the one the mower threw a rock through, or the one that was never right. Fixing that one now keeps water out of the wall until you are ready for the rest.

The work is matching. We look at the windows around it for brand, frame color, interior finish, glass tint, grille pattern and how wide the frame reads from the street. If the same line is still made, we order it. If it is not, we pick the closest current window and tell you up front where it will differ. Then it goes in the same way the others did, insert or full frame, and the trim inside and out is matched to what is there.

Three photos and a sentence is enough: a reply within one business day, or ask for a free in-home estimate. Or text the photos to 763-204-2099.

Photos (optional)

Up to 3: one wide shot of the area, one close-up of the opening or trim, one of anything you're unsure about.

How do you want your quote?

Free, no obligation. Every quote is written and itemized, so you can compare it line by line.

What you supply

  • Photos of the window inside and out, and of the windows next to it
  • Any brand label or sticker on the old frame or glass spacer
  • Paint or stain color for new trim, or leave it primed
  • Clear access to the window inside

What JMB supplies

  • Measure of the opening and a match check against the windows beside it
  • The window, ordered through ABC Supply in the closest matching line
  • Removal of the old window and repair of a rotted sill or rough opening
  • Install with sill pan or flashing tape, shims and low-expansion foam
  • Interior stops or casing and exterior capping or trim matched to the rest
  • Painting quoted as a separate line, or leave it primed and caulked
  • Photos of the finished window in your job folder

How it is priced: per window

Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:

  • Size, style and frame material of the window being matched
  • Whether the same line is still made or a close match is needed
  • Insert vs. full frame, and rot in the sill or rough opening
  • Exterior finish: capping, PVC trim or siding cut back
  • Interior trim kept, matched or replaced
  • Second-story or hard-to-reach openings

A single window carries the measure, the order and the setup on its own, so per window it costs more than the same window in a group. Adding a second window on the same visit spreads that out.

How long it takes

One window: half a day to a day once it arrives, longer if the sill or framing under it is rotted.

How your project works

  1. 1

Send photos, get a written quote

Send three photos of the space and a sentence about what you want. You get a clear, itemized reply within one business day. Prefer a look in person? A free in-home estimate is always an option.

  2. 2

Pick materials, or bring your own

We help you choose profiles and materials that fit the house and the budget, or match your existing millwork exactly — or you buy the door or trim yourself and we install it. Everything is confirmed before the crew is scheduled.

  3. 3

    Clean, precise installation

The crew shows up on time, protects floors and furniture, and installs with tight joints and consistent reveals. Photos of the finished work go in your job folder.

  4. 4

    Walkthrough and invoice

We walk the finished work with you. If anything is not right, we fix it before we call the job done. Then one invoice, paid by check or direct deposit — no card fees, no payment links.

Situations and options

Same line, still made

When the brand and line beside it are still sold, the new window is ordered in the same color, glass and grille pattern. It usually reads as part of the set.

Closest current match

When the old line is gone, we pick the current window with the closest frame width, color and grilles, and show you where it will differ before you order.

One rotted window, full frame

When the sill or frame is soft, the whole window comes out to the rough opening, the rot is cut out and patched, and the new window goes in with a sill pan and flashing.

Replace Just One Window — Single Window Replacement, Matched: questions, answered

Will a contractor replace just one window?

Many will not, but JMB Builders does. A single window is quoted per window like any other job, from photos or at a free in-home estimate. We measure it, order it to match the windows around it and install it the same way the rest were put in.

Can a new window match my existing windows?

Usually close. If the same brand and line are still made, we order it in the same color, glass and grille pattern. If not, we pick the nearest current window and tell you before ordering where it will look different, such as frame width or the white shade.

Is it worth replacing just one window?

When that window is rotted, leaking or broken beyond a glass swap, yes. Water getting past one bad sill rots the wall under it no matter how good the other windows are. If only the glass is fogged or cracked and the frame is sound, replacing the glass may be the better fix.

Can you replace one rotted window without touching the others?

Yes. The rotted window comes out to the rough opening, the soft sill or framing is cut out and patched, and the new window goes in with a sill pan and flashing. The windows beside it are not touched, and the trim around the new one is matched to theirs.

Does replacing one window need a permit?

Some Twin Cities cities require a permit even for one replacement window, and some do not. When the job needs one, JMB pulls it. A bedroom window still has to meet egress when it is replaced, so we check that at the measure.

Why does one window cost more per window than a whole house?

Because the measure, the order, the trip and the setup are spread over one opening instead of ten. The install work per window is about the same. If another window is close to failing, adding it to the same visit usually brings the per-window number down.
