Two Tone Replacement Windows — Which Lines Allow Which Color Pairs
You want the house dark from the street and the rooms light inside. That is a two tone window, and the pair you want decides which windows you can buy.

Two tone replacement windows have one color outside and another inside, usually dark outside and white or wood inside. Not every line allows every pair, so the color combination picks the line. JMB Builders measures, orders through ABC Supply and installs them across the Twin Cities metro, with patio doors to match. Priced per opening; send photos and we reply within one business day, or book a free in-home estimate.
- Priced per opening, windows supplied
- Color pair checked against each line
- Patio doors ordered in the same pair

A window gets two colors in one of four ways. Vinyl is made dual-color or gets a factory finish on the outside face only. Composite and fiberglass frames are colored on each face. Clad wood has a colored exterior over a wood interior you stain or paint. Each way has its own list of allowed pairs, and they do not all include the one you have in mind.
Some real limits from the makers' own lists: Andersen's 100 Series sells Dark Bronze and Black interiors only with the matching exterior, so two tone there means dark outside with White or Sandtone inside. Simonton's 5500 pairs a Bronze or Black exterior with a Tan or woodgrain interior, not white. Pella's 250 Series vinyl and Impervia fiberglass offer a White interior with Brown or Black outside, and Impervia adds Tan and Morning Sky Gray.
Pick the pair first, then the line, then the patio door that comes in it. Everything goes on one order so the colors match from room to room. We buy through ABC Supply. Andersen is confirmed at our Minnesota ABC branches; for any other brand we confirm the line with our ABC branch before the quote is final.

How it is priced: per opening
Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:
- The line that offers your color pair: vinyl, composite, fiberglass or clad wood
- Dark exterior colors, often an extra option on the order
- Wood interior to stain, or a white or colored interior
- Matching patio door in the same pair
- Insert or full-frame install for each opening
- Exterior capping or trim in the outside color
Tell us the pair you want and send one photo of the house from the street. Lead time depends on the brand and the color and is written on the quote.
How long it takes
Three to five windows a day once the order arrives, room by room. A matching patio door adds most of a day.

Situations and options
Dual-color vinyl
White inside, dark outside on lines that list it, such as Pella 250 Series. Some vinyl lines only pair a dark exterior with a tan or woodgrain interior, so check the line before you fall for it.
Composite or fiberglass
Andersen 100 Series Fibrex and Pella Impervia fiberglass are colored on each face. Dark exteriors go with a white or light interior; some dark interiors are sold only with the matching exterior.
Wood interior, colored exterior
Andersen 400 Series offers seven exterior colors over natural pine or a factory interior color. The A-Series lists 11 exterior colors that can be mixed across sash, frame and trim.
Patio door in the same pair
Andersen 100 and 400 Series and Pella Impervia include patio doors. Ordering the door with the windows keeps the two colors identical across the back of the house.
Two Tone Replacement Windows — Which Lines Allow Which Color Pairs: questions, answered
Which replacement windows come two tone?
Most lines that sell a dark exterior offer it over a lighter interior, but the allowed pairs differ. Andersen 100, 400 and A-Series, Pella 250 and Impervia, and Simonton 5500 all list two-color combinations. We check your pair against each line's list before we quote.
Can I get vinyl windows that are black outside and white inside?
On some lines. Pella lists a White interior with a Black exterior on its 250 Series vinyl. Simonton's 5500 pairs Black only with a Tan or woodgrain interior. When a vinyl line will not do the pair, composite or fiberglass usually will.
Is a factory two tone window the same as painting the outside of a white window?
No. A factory two tone frame is colored or finished by the maker on the outside face, on a line built for that color. Painting white vinyl on site is not the same product, and it is not what the maker's literature covers. We order the color from the factory.
Can my patio door match two tone windows?
Yes, if it comes from a line that offers the same pair. Andersen and Pella both sell patio doors in their window lines. Ordering the door on the same order as the windows keeps the colors identical. The door is a separate line on the quote.
Does the window hardware match the inside or the outside color?
It sits inside, so it is picked to go with the interior. On some lines it is color-matched to the interior automatically, such as Pella 250. On others, like the Andersen 400 Series, you choose from several finishes, including black or bronze on a white or wood interior.
Do two tone windows take longer to get?
Often. Dark exterior colors are made to order on many lines. The lead time depends on the brand and the color, and it is written on the quote. Install days are set when the windows arrive.
