To replace all windows and doors at once, JMB Builders measures every window, entry door, patio door and storm door in one visit, lists each opening on one quote, orders them together so colors and glass match, then installs in a set order so the house stays lockable every night. Twin Cities metro and north to St. Cloud, priced per project. Photo reply within one business day, or a free in-home estimate.

  • Windows, entry, patio and storm doors on one quote
  • One measure, one order, matched finishes
  • House closed and lockable every night
Green-sided home front with a new bay window and entry

Doing every opening at once is the biggest single change you can make to the outside of a house, and the one most likely to go wrong if it is bought in pieces. A patio door from one place, windows from another and storm doors off the shelf a year later rarely end up the same color or with the same trim details.

As one project, it works like this. Every window and every door is measured in person in one visit: front, back, the patio slider or French door, the garage service door, and any storm doors. The quote lists each one by opening with its size, swing or handing, glass, install method and trim. Frame and door colors are matched by sample before ordering, because windows, patio doors and entry doors are often made by different companies. Then it all goes on one order.

The install runs in an order that keeps the house secure. Windows go in room by room. The patio door gets its own day because it is the largest opening. Entry doors each get their own day so there is always a working, locking entry. Storm doors go on last, sized to the new entry doors.

Photos (optional)

Up to 3: one wide shot of the area, one close-up of the opening or trim, one of anything you're unsure about.

How do you want your quote?

Free, no obligation. Every quote is written and itemized, so you can compare it line by line.

What you supply

  • A photo of each window and each door, inside and out, labeled by location
  • Your picks or a request for options: window line, patio door style, entry door style, storm door style
  • Hardware finish and whether you want the locks keyed alike
  • A plan for pets and kids on the patio door and entry door days
  • Paint or stain color: painting is quoted as a separate line, or leave it primed and caulked and paint it yourself

What JMB supplies

  • One in-person measure of every window and door opening
  • A line-item quote by opening: each window, entry door, patio door and storm door
  • Color, glass and hardware samples compared before ordering
  • Everything on one order; lead time depends on the brand and is written on the quote
  • Doors set in sill pans, flashed, shimmed, foamed and adjusted to latch
  • Interior and exterior trim at every opening, floors and furniture covered
  • One contact for the whole job, a permit pulled when needed, and haul-away

How it is priced: per project

Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:

  • How many windows and doors, and the mix of styles
  • Patio door type: sliding, hinged French, or a wider multi-panel unit
  • Entry door material, sidelites, transoms and glass inserts
  • Storm doors: full view, retractable screen, or none
  • Insert or full frame on each window
  • Rot at door sills, subfloor or window sills found at the measure
  • Siding, stucco or brick around the openings

Photograph each door's threshold and hinge side as well as the face. Sill condition is the biggest unknown on a door.

How long it takes

Lead time depends on the brand and is written on the quote. Windows go in first, then the patio door and each entry door on their own days, storm doors last; the schedule is on the quote.

Situations and options

Everything, one stretch

Windows, then the patio door, then each entry and the storm doors, back to back. One mess, one cleanup, and the outside of the house changes all at once.

Everything ordered, installed in two parts

All of it goes on one order so it matches, but the doors are installed a week or two after the windows to fit your schedule. The order date does not change.

Line by line on one quote

Every opening is its own line, so you can see what the storm doors or the patio door add, and move one to later without re-quoting the rest.

Replace All Windows and Doors at Once — Patio and Storm Doors Too: questions, answered

Is it better to replace all windows and doors at once?

If most of them are near the end, yes. One measure and one order mean frame colors, glass and trim details match across every opening, and the outside of the house is worked on once. If one door is fine, the quote can leave it off and write its color down for later.

What order do you install windows and doors in?

Windows first, room by room, then the patio door on its own day, then each entry door on its own day, and storm doors last. That keeps a locking door on the house every night. A door that is leaking or will not lock can go first.

Will the patio door match the new windows?

Often the patio door can come from the same line as the windows, which makes matching straightforward. Entry and storm doors usually come from other makers, so their finish is matched by sample before ordering. A door can also be painted on site as a separate line.

Should storm doors be replaced with new entry doors?

If you want storm doors, it is best to order them with the entry doors so they are sized and handed to the new door and frame. An old storm door often does not fit a new door's brickmould. Some owners skip storm doors on a new insulated door; that is your call.

How long does a full window and door replacement take?

Lead time depends on the brand and is written on the quote. Once everything is on site, the windows take several working days, the patio door about a day, and each entry door about half a day to a day. Rot at a door sill adds time.

Can I get one quote for every window and door in my house?

Yes. JMB Builders lists every window, entry door, patio door and storm door by opening on one quote. Send photos for a reply within one business day, or book a free in-home estimate and we measure them all in one visit.
