Windows and doors usually get bought separately, from separate companies, a year apart. The result is a white front door next to almond windows, two sets of trim details and two sets of holes in the siding. Doing them as one package means the exterior gets one look and one standard of flashing and trim.
Windows and entry doors are often made by different companies, so the colors are matched by sample, not by name. We bring the samples to the measure, write each door's size, swing, glass and hardware finish on the quote next to the windows, and order everything together. Doors usually go in on their own day so the house is never without a lockable entry overnight.

How long it takes
Windows run three to five a day as inserts, one to three full frame. Each entry door is about half a day to a day, longer with sidelites or rot. The whole schedule is written on the quote.

Should I replace windows and doors at the same time?
If both are near the end of their life, yes. One measure and one order mean the colors, trim and flashing details match across the house, and the outside gets worked on once. If the doors are fine, do the windows now and write the window color down for the door later.
Can one contractor replace both the windows and the entry doors?
Yes. JMB Builders measures, supplies and installs both, with one quote and one contact. Windows and doors are listed line by line, so you can compare each part with any other quote.
Will my new front door match my new windows?
Windows and entry doors are often made by different companies, so the color names may not line up. We match by sample: the door finish is held next to the window frame sample before anything is ordered. A door can also be painted on site as a separate line to match.
Do you replace windows or doors first?
Usually windows first, room by room, then the doors on their own days. That keeps a lockable door on the house while windows are going in. If a door is leaking or failing, it can go first.
How long are we without a front door when it is replaced?
The old door comes out and the new one is set, sealed and locking the same day. Most entry doors are about half a day; doors with sidelites or a rotted sill take longer. You use another entry for those hours.
Can all my new door locks use the same key?
Yes. Locksets and deadbolts can be ordered keyed alike, or rekeyed to match, so one key opens every exterior door. Ask for it at the measure and it goes on the quote.
