Replace Windows and Patio Door at the Same Time — One Matched Order
The patio door is the biggest piece of glass in the house. Ordered on its own a year later, it rarely matches the windows next to it.

When you replace windows and patio door at the same time, the slider goes on the same order as the windows, so the frame color, glass package and grille pattern match. JMB Builders measures every opening, lists the door and each window on one quote, sets the door in a sill pan with flashing and trims it like the windows. Twin Cities metro, priced per project, photo quote or free in-home estimate.
- Door and windows on one order
- Glass, color and grilles matched
- Door set in a sill pan and flashed

A patio door sits right beside the kitchen or living room windows, so a mismatch shows: a slightly different white, a different grille bar, a tint on the door glass that the windows do not have. Putting the door on the window order fixes that. Same maker where possible, same glass package, same grille pattern and the same interior and exterior trim.
The door is also the heaviest opening and the one most likely to hide rot in the subfloor at the sill. We check it at the measure, write any repair on the quote, and give the door its own install day, so the house has a closed, locking door every night.

What JMB supplies
- In-person measure of the patio door and every window
- One quote with the door and each window listed
- Door and windows ordered together so glass and grilles match
- Subfloor or sill repair at the door when needed, quoted up front
- Sill pan, flashing tape, foam and sealant at the door and every window
- Interior trim on the door to match the window casing
- Haul-away of the old door and windows
How it is priced: per project
Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:
- Patio door size and layout: two-panel, three-panel or French
- Number of windows and their install method
- Rot at the door sill, subfloor or rim found at the measure
- Grilles between the glass, blinds between the glass, or none
- Exterior cladding around the door: siding, stucco or brick
- Trim scope: new casing to match the windows or reuse existing
Send a photo of the door from inside and out and a close-up of the floor at the sill. Soft spots there change the quote.
How long it takes
The patio door is usually its own day. Windows run about three to five a day as inserts. Lead time depends on the brand and is written on the quote.

Situations and options
Same maker, same line
Many window makers sell a patio door in the same line, with the same colors and glass options. That is the simplest match, and we price it first.
Slider to French style
If you want hinged doors instead of a slider, the change goes on the same order. A swing door needs floor space to open; we check that at the measure.
Door from a different maker
If the door you want comes from a different company than the windows, we match by sample: frame color and grille profile held side by side before ordering.
Replace Windows and Patio Door at the Same Time — One Matched Order: questions, answered
Should the patio door match the windows?
On the same wall, yes. A different white, grille pattern or glass tint shows when the door sits next to a window. Ordering them together is the easiest way to get a match.
Is it cheaper to replace the patio door with the windows?
Usually a little, because it is one measure, one delivery and one set of install days. The bigger gain is the match: the door and windows have the same color, glass and grilles.
Is the patio door installed the same day as the windows?
Usually it gets its own day. The door is heavy, needs a sill pan and often sill repair, and it is the one opening that has to lock at night. Windows go in on the days around it.
Do grilles on the patio door line up with the windows?
They can be ordered in the same pattern and bar width. Exact line-up across a door and a window depends on their sizes, so we look at it at the measure and pick the grille layout with you.
What if the floor by my old slider is soft?
That is water from a failed sill, and it has to be fixed before the new door goes in. We cut out the bad subfloor, repair the rim if needed and set the new door in a pan. It is written on the quote once we see it.
Can I change my slider to French doors when I replace the windows?
Yes. It goes on the same order and the same quote. A hinged door needs swing room inside or out, so furniture and deck layout are checked at the measure.
