Front Windows and Front Door Curb Appeal — One Matched Package

You look at the house from the street and the front windows and the front door are what date it, so you want them new, matched and done at once.

For front windows and front door curb appeal, JMB Builders replaces the street-facing windows and the entry door as one package: one measure, one order so the frame and door colors work together, the grille pattern and exterior trim made consistent across the front. Twin Cities metro and north to St. Cloud. Priced per project with each window and the door on its own line. Photos get a reply within one business day, or book a free in-home estimate.

  • Front windows and entry door in one order
  • Door color and window color picked together
  • Priced per project, each opening on its own line
Green-sided home front with a new bay window and entry

The street side is a handful of openings: a picture or living room window, a couple of bedroom windows, maybe a bay, and the front door. Replace the door alone and the new color makes the old windows look tired. Replace the windows alone and the old door stands out. Done together, the four or five things people see from the street are chosen as a set.

Choosing them together is the point. The window frame color comes first, since it is on every opening. The door color is picked against it: matching, or an accent that works with it. The grille pattern is the same on every front window, or left off all of them. The door glass is picked to go with the window glass. And the trim around every front opening is one profile and one color, so the front reads as one design instead of parts bought years apart.

This page is the package. The windows-first plan and the entry makeover with sidelights and pilasters each have their own page. Here the front windows and the door are measured at one visit, ordered in one order, and installed over a few days with the house closed and locked every night.

Photos (optional)

Up to 3: one wide shot of the area, one close-up of the opening or trim, one of anything you're unsure about.

How do you want your quote?

Free, no obligation. Every quote is written and itemized, so you can compare it line by line.

What you supply

  • A photo of the whole front of the house from the street
  • Photos of each front window and the door, inside and out
  • Color and style ideas, or a photo of a house you like
  • Storm door decision: keep, replace or remove

What JMB supplies

  • One in-person measure of every front window and the door before ordering
  • Windows and the entry door ordered through ABC Supply in one order
  • Color, grille and glass choices laid out together before anything is ordered
  • Sill pans and flashing at the door and every window; rot repaired and quoted first
  • Exterior trim or capping in one profile and color across the front
  • Lockset and deadbolt fitted; floors protected inside and old units hauled away
  • Painting as a separate line, or leave it primed and caulked

How it is priced: per project

Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:

  • How many windows face the street, and any bay, bow or picture unit among them
  • Door alone vs. a door with sidelights; glass in the door
  • Insert vs. full-frame on each window
  • Exterior trim: new trim boards vs. aluminum capping
  • Siding, brick or stone on the front
  • Window line, door material, color and grille pattern

Send the street photo first. The quote lists every front window and the door so you can drop one or add the sides later.

How long it takes

Lead time depends on the brand and is written on the quote. On site, most fronts with four to six windows and a door take two to four days; the door gets its own day.

Situations and options

Matched color

Door and window frames in the same color, for a quiet, even front. Common with white or tan siding and a door with a lot of glass.

Accent door

Window frames in one color and the door in a stronger one that works with it. The trim stays with the windows so the door is the one thing that stands out.

Front now, the rest later

Only the front windows and the door now, with the rest of the house measured at the same visit and the colors written down so the sides and back match later.

Front Windows and Front Door Curb Appeal — One Matched Package: questions, answered

Should I update the front windows and door at the same time?

If both are old, it makes the biggest change from the street for one project. The colors, glass and trim are chosen together, the order comes in at once, and the front looks finished when we leave. If one of them is new, we match the other to it as closely as the brand allows.

Can a new front door match the color of new windows?

Many door lines come in factory colors that sit close to the common window frame colors, and a door can also be painted to match. An exact match across two different products is not always possible, which is why some people choose an accent door on purpose. We show you the samples side by side before ordering.

Which front windows count for curb appeal?

Every window you can see from the street, usually the living room window, the bedroom windows on the front, and any bay or window over the garage. Windows on the sides that show from the sidewalk count too on a corner lot. We list each one on the quote so you decide where the line is.

Do the front window grilles need to match the door glass?

They do not have to match exactly, but they should agree. A front with grilles in the windows looks right with a door that has divided glass or no glass. Windows with no grilles go with a door with plain glass or a simple lite. We lay out the choices together so the front reads as one set.

How long does it take to replace the front windows and front door?

Most fronts are two to four days on site once the order arrives. The windows go in a room at a time, closed each day, and the door gets its own day so the house is locked with the new door that night. Lead time depends on the brand and is written on the quote.

What about the storm door when the front door is replaced?

Decide before ordering. A full-view storm door shows off the new door, an older storm door can be removed and the holes filled, or the old one can go back on if it fits. We can install a new storm door the same day as the entry door.
