A whole house window replacement timeline has five stages: first quote, in-person measure, order, install and final walkthrough. The order stage is usually the longest, and its lead time depends on the brand and is written on the quote. Install for most houses runs several working days. JMB Builders replaces whole houses across the Twin Cities and north to St. Cloud, priced per project. Photo reply within one business day, or a free in-home estimate.
- Five stages, each one written down for you
- Lead time for your brand printed on the quote
- Install: several working days for most houses

Most people expect window replacement to be the install days. The install is the short part. Replacement windows are built to order after every opening is measured, so the calendar is mostly the order, with a few short stages on either side.
Some stages are yours to speed up. Sending clear photos, booking the measure promptly and deciding on brand, color and glass quickly all shorten the front end. The factory lead time is not something we or you control. It depends on the brand, the line, the color and options such as grilles or special glass, and it moves with the season. We write the current lead time for your line on the quote, not a guess on the phone.
This page walks the stages in order. If you are trying to land the install in a certain month, the page on how far ahead to book works backward from that date.

Three photos and a sentence is enough: a reply within one business day, or ask for a free in-home estimate. Or text the photos to 763-204-2099.
What you supply
- Photos of each window, labeled by room, to start the first quote
- A time for the in-home measure, about an hour or two for most houses
- Your decisions on brand, color, glass and grilles so the order can be placed
- Clear access to the windows on install days
- Paint or stain color if you want it: painting is quoted as a separate line, or leave it primed and caulked
What JMB supplies
- A reply to your photos within one business day, or a free in-home estimate
- One in-person measure of every opening before ordering
- A line-item quote by opening with the brand's lead time written on it
- One order for the whole house so colors and glass match
- An install schedule room by room, the house closed every night
- Floors and furniture covered, one contact to call during the job, and a final walkthrough
How it is priced: per project
Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:
- Number of windows and the mix of styles
- Brand, line and options, which also set the lead time
- Insert or full frame on each opening
- Upstairs windows that need a lift or roof brackets
- Rot or framing repair found when the windows come out
- Interior and exterior trim scope
Dark exterior colors, specialty shapes and some glass options can lengthen the lead time; the quote says so when they do.
How long it takes
Measure: an hour or two. Order: lead time depends on the brand and is written on the quote. Install: several working days for most houses, longer for full frame or 30+ windows.
How your project works
- 1
1. First quote from photos or a free visit
Send a labeled photo of each window and we reply within one business day, or book a free in-home estimate. This gives you a working number and a list of openings.
- 2
2. In-person measure
Every opening is measured, checked for rot and decided as insert or full frame. You see samples of color and glass. The quote is firmed up from this visit.
- 3
3. Sign and order
Once you sign the line-item quote, the whole house goes on one order. This is the longest stage; the lead time for your brand is on the quote and nothing speeds the factory.
- 4
4. Install, room by room
We schedule the install days when the windows are in. Each window is removed, set, flashed, sealed and trimmed, and every opening is closed the same day.
- 5
5. Final walkthrough
We operate and lock every window with you, finish anything on the punch list, and put photos of the job in your folder.
Whole House Window Replacement Timeline — Quote to Final Walkthrough: questions, answered
How long does whole house window replacement take from start to finish?
The install itself is usually several working days for a typical house. The full timeline is longer because windows are built to order after the measure, and the lead time depends on the brand and is written on the quote. The measure and the quote are the short stages at the front.
What is the lead time on a window order?
It depends on the brand, the line, the color and options like grilles or special glass, and it changes with the season. JMB Builders writes the current lead time for your line on the quote rather than guessing. If one window in the order is slow, the whole order waits so the house is installed as one job.
How many windows can be installed in a day?
Inserts in sound frames often go in at a few per day. Full frame windows, upstairs windows worked from a lift and windows with rot take longer each. The install schedule is written on the quote for your house.
Can windows be ordered before they are measured?
No. Every opening is measured in person before anything is ordered, because replacement windows are built to size and cannot be returned. Photos are enough for a first number, not for an order.
Will my house be open overnight during window replacement?
No. Each window is removed and the new one set, sealed and closed the same day. The crew works room by room, so a room you need that night is finished before we leave.
Who do I call during the window install?
One contact at JMB Builders for the whole job, named on the quote. Questions about schedule, a room you need back, or something you notice after we leave all go to that person.
