Pole Barn Window and Door Replacement — Every Shop Opening at Once

Your shop is getting heated or finished inside, and the old single-pane sliders and the rusted walk doors are the weak spots in the walls.

Reply within one business day. Or call / text 763-204-2099.

Pole barn window and door replacement, done as one project: every old window and steel service door on your shop or pole building measured once, ordered together and replaced in one trip, sealed to the girts and steel and trimmed. JMB Builders works across the Twin Cities metro and north to St. Cloud. Priced per opening. Send photos for a reply within one business day, or book a free in-home estimate.

  • Priced per opening, every unit on its own line
  • All shop windows and walk doors in one order
  • Photo reply in one business day, or free estimate

Most pole buildings went up with whatever windows and walk doors came in the building package: single-pane aluminum or vinyl sliders set between the girts, and a steel door in a wood jamb sitting on the slab. That is fine for cold storage. Once you add heat, a liner or a workbench you use all winter, those openings frost, drip and leak air, and the walk door rots out at the bottom.

This page is the whole-building version of the job. One door or one new opening is on the pole barn door and window page. Here we walk every wall, list each window and each service door with its size, the girt and post spacing around it and the condition of the framing, and order the set in one order so the frame color and glass match on every wall.

Each window comes out, the rough opening between the girts is checked and squared, rotted blocking or splash plank is replaced with treated lumber, and the new unit goes in on a sloped sill with flashing tape, J-trim and closures where it meets the steel. Walk doors go in on a sill pan or treated sill with a thermal-break door for a heated shop. Where the wall has a liner, it is cut and trimmed inside too.

Three photos and a sentence is enough: a reply within one business day, or ask for a free in-home estimate. Or text the photos to 763-204-2099.

Photos (optional)

Up to 3: one wide shot of the area, one close-up of the opening or trim, one of anything you're unsure about.

How do you want your quote?

Free, no obligation. Every quote is written and itemized, so you can compare it line by line.

What you supply

  • Photos of every wall, inside and out, with the windows and doors in view
  • Whether the building is heated now or will be, and what goes on the walls inside
  • Glass choice: clear, obscure for the street side, or tempered where it is required
  • Benches, shelving and stored equipment moved back from each opening

What JMB supplies

  • One in-person measure of every window and walk door before ordering
  • Windows and steel service doors ordered through ABC Supply in one order
  • Rotted blocking, sill framing or splash plank at an opening rebuilt in treated lumber
  • Sill pans, flashing tape, J-trim and closures sealed to the wall steel
  • Liner cut and trimmed around each opening where the shop is finished inside
  • Locksets and deadbolts on the walk doors, keyed alike if you want
  • Old units and cutoffs hauled away, photos in your job folder
  • Painting of any wood trim quoted as its own line, or you paint it

How it is priced: per opening

Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:

  • How many windows and walk doors are on the building
  • Same-size swaps vs. openings resized to a standard window or door
  • Rot in the blocking, girts or splash plank around each opening
  • Insulated glass and a thermal-break door for a heated shop vs. cold storage
  • Whether the inside has a steel liner or other finish that has to be cut and trimmed
  • Trim color: matching the wall steel or a contrasting color

Send one photo of each wall and a close-up of each walk door at the bottom of the jamb. The quote lists every opening, so you can phase the back wall later.

How long it takes

Lead time depends on the brand and is written on the quote. On site, most shops with a handful of windows and one or two walk doors take one to three days.

Situations and options

Cold storage to heated shop

Old single-pane sliders swapped for insulated vinyl windows and the walk door for a thermal-break steel door, so the openings match the insulation and liner going in.

Windows only, doors later

Every window on the building in one order now, with the walk doors listed on the same quote so the color and hardware match when you add them.

Shop on the house lot

A detached shop next to the house can take the same window color and door style as the house, so the property reads as one set from the road.

Overhead doors on the same trip

The big doors are their own job with framing, jambs and a header. They can be quoted beside the windows and walk doors so the building is done in one schedule.

Pole Barn Window and Door Replacement — Every Shop Opening at Once: questions, answered

Can you replace all the windows in my pole barn at once?

Yes. Every window is measured in one visit, ordered together and replaced in one trip, so the frame color and glass match on all four walls. Each one is sealed to the girts and the steel with flashing tape, J-trim and closures. The quote lists each window, so you can drop one or leave a wall for later.

What windows go in a heated shop or pole building?

A flanged vinyl window with insulated glass is the usual choice for a heated shop, because it seals to the framed opening and stops the frost and drip you get from old single-pane sliders. Sliders and single hungs fit the short, wide openings between girts. Obscure glass is common on the side that faces the road. We confirm the line with our ABC branch before the quote is final.

What kind of service door should a pole building have?

A steel walk door in a treated or composite jamb, with a thermal break if the building is heated. A wood jamb sitting on concrete is why most old pole barn doors rot at the bottom. The new door goes on a sill pan or treated sill and is sealed to the wall steel.

Can the new shop windows be a bigger size than the old ones?

Often, yes, within the space between the girts and posts. Going taller usually means cutting a girt and adding a header tied to the posts, which is listed on the quote for that opening. The steel is cut clean and the edges are capped with trim in the wall color.

Do you install metal building windows in a building with a liner inside?

Yes. The liner is cut to the new opening and trimmed with matching J-trim or a wood return, so the inside looks finished. If insulation sits between the liner and the steel, it is cut back and sealed around the new frame. Tell us what is on the inside of the wall when you send photos.

Are overhead doors part of a shop window and door replacement?

They can be quoted on the same visit, but they are their own job: the opening is framed with a header sized for the span and the door and opener come from the overhead door company or you. Opener wiring is done by a licensed electrician. The overhead door page covers how that part goes.
