Laundry room window replacement is a small window in the wettest room in the house: it fogs, the sill rots and the sash sticks. JMB Builders replaces laundry room windows across the Twin Cities metro with a small awning or slider that vents, obscure glass for privacy and a sill that does not soak up water. Priced per window, quoted from photos or at a free in-home estimate, with a reply within one business day.
- Priced per window, often done with other small units
- Awning or slider sized to the old opening
- Obscure glass and a PVC or clad sill

A laundry room is warm and wet for hours at a time. The dryer heats the room, the washer and the wet clothes load the air, and the coldest surface in the room, the window glass, is where that moisture lands. By the time the call comes in, the glass runs with condensation every winter, the stool is black and spongy, and the paint is lifting off the casing. On a 1950s or 1960s house the window is often a small single-pane wood sash or an aluminum slider with a storm, which makes it worse.
The fix is a small window that vents and a sill that does not rot. An awning tilts out from the top and can stay cracked while the dryer runs, even in rain. A slider opens one-handed from above the washer. Both come with obscure glass so nobody on the side yard sees the laundry. Inside, a PVC or clad stool and apron take the water instead of soaking it up.
The window is usually one of several small units, with the bathroom and the mudroom, that get replaced in the same trip. Painting is quoted as a separate line — or leave it primed and caulked and paint it yourself.

How it is priced: per window
Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:
- Insert in a sound frame vs. full-frame with the rotted stool and framing replaced
- Awning hardware vs. a slider
- PVC interior trim vs. wood matched to the house
- Rot in the sill framing from years of condensation
- Whether the laundry window is done alone or with the bathroom and other small units
- Obscure glass pattern and exterior color
Send a photo from above the washer with the window and stool in frame, one from outside, and one close-up of the stool corner where it is soft.
How long it takes
One laundry window: two to three hours as an insert, a half day full-frame with the stool and framing repaired. Done with the bathroom windows in the same visit when you have both.

Situations and options
Awning in a small high opening
Hinged at the top, tilts out, sheds rain while it vents. The usual pick above a washer where the opening is wide and short. Cranks shut against a gasket.
Slider at counter height
Opens with one hand pushing sideways, no crank to hit a shelf or a cabinet above the washer. Screen on the outside.
Basement laundry window
A laundry in the basement usually has a hopper or a small slider in a block wall. It is replaced the same way with a vinyl unit sized to the block opening and sealed to the block.
PVC trim package
Stool, apron and casing in cellular PVC that never swells or blackens. Painted to match or left white. The right call where the old wood stool rotted.
Laundry Room Window Replacement — Small Awning or Slider, Humidity Out: questions, answered
What window is best for a laundry room?
A small awning or slider with obscure glass. The awning vents while it rains and seals tight when cranked shut; the slider opens one-handed from above the washer. Both fit the wide, short openings laundry rooms usually have. Pair it with a PVC or clad stool, because the wood one rotted for a reason.
Why does my laundry room window sweat and rot?
The dryer and the wet clothes load the air with moisture, and the window glass is the coldest surface in the room, so the water condenses there and runs onto the stool. An old single-pane or aluminum window makes it worse because the glass and frame get even colder. New insulated glass with a warm-edge spacer stays warmer, condenses less, and a PVC stool takes what does form.
Will a new window stop the condensation in my laundry room?
It cuts it a lot but a laundry room still needs the moisture to leave. Make sure the dryer vents outside, not into the room, and run the exhaust fan or crack the awning while the dryer runs. New glass stays warmer, so the same air condenses less. If the glass still sweats, the room is too humid and the fix is ventilation, not the window.
Can the laundry room window have frosted glass?
Yes, it is ordered with obscure glass in a pattern you pick, frosted, rain or a fine texture. It is part of the glass unit, not a film, so it does not peel or scratch. Light still comes through; the view does not.
Can you replace a small laundry window without taking the wall apart?
Yes. An insert sets inside the old frame and only the stops and the exterior capping change. A full-frame install opens the drywall only at the stool and casing, and it is the right call when the stool and sill framing are rotted, which they usually are in a laundry room. Either way the room is back in use the same day.
Can the laundry window be done at the same time as the bathroom windows?
Yes, and it is the usual way. The small windows in the bathroom, laundry and mudroom are ordered together, in the same color and glass, and set in one visit. The second and third window in the same trip cost less than the first.
