Lake cabin window replacement covers seasonal lake homes from the north metro up toward St. Cloud: big lake-side view windows, frames rotted from a closed-up summer, and work scheduled while you are not there. JMB Builders measures, orders the windows, replaces them as inserts or full-frame, trims them and posts photos to your job folder. Priced per window, quoted from photos, reply within one business day.
- Priced per window, windows supplied
- Work scheduled while you're away
- Photos of each finished window in your job folder

Lake places between the north metro and St. Cloud have their own window problems. The lake side is mostly glass: large picture windows, patio doors and tall casements facing the water and the weather. Those units take the sun and the wind off the lake, and they are big enough that a failed seal or a leak shows.
Cabins that sit closed up for weeks get humid inside. Moisture condenses on cold glass and frames, runs to the sill and sits there. That is why so many cabin windows rot at the bottom of the sash and the sill while the rest looks fine. Older cabins also tend to have a mix of windows from different decades and additions.
We measure once with you there, or with access you arrange, and quote every opening. The work can be scheduled for a stretch when you are not using the place, and each opening is closed and weathertight at the end of the day. Photos of every finished window go in your job folder so you can see it before you drive up. If the opening needs a permit, we pull it. Painting is quoted as a separate line — or leave it primed and caulked and paint it yourself.

How it is priced: per window
Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:
- Size of the lake-side view windows and how many people it takes to set them
- Rot found in sills and framing when the old windows come out
- Insert vs. full-frame on each opening
- Exterior cladding: log, cedar, lap siding or vinyl
- Access: walkout slopes, decks and second-story lake-side walls
- Travel distance, and how many windows in the job
Send the lake-side photos first; the big units drive the quote. Tell us when the cabin is empty so we can plan the work for then.
How long it takes
Most cabins: two to four days once the windows arrive. Large lake-side units can take most of a day each.

Situations and options
Lake-side view wall
Large picture windows with casements or awnings for air. Replaced as one large unit or a mulled set, set and flashed so wind-driven rain off the lake stays out.
Rot from a closed-up cabin
Sashes and sills soft at the bottom from condensation. Full-frame at those openings so the sill and framing can be repaired before the new window goes in.
Log or cedar walls
Windows set with room for the wall to settle where needed, and trimmed in cedar or pine. The interior log trim job has its own page.
Lake Cabin Window Replacement — View Windows Done While You're Away: questions, answered
Can you replace cabin windows while we are not there?
Yes. After the measure, the work can be scheduled for a stretch when you are not using the place, with access you arrange. Each opening is closed and weathertight at the end of each day, and photos of the finished windows go in your job folder.
Why do lake cabin windows rot at the bottom?
A cabin that sits closed up gets humid inside. Moisture condenses on the cold glass and frames, runs down and sits on the sill. Over years the bottom rail and sill rot while the rest of the window looks fine.
Do you work on cabins outside the Twin Cities?
We work from Zimmerman across the Twin Cities metro and north toward St. Cloud. Lake places in that area are within range. Send the address with your photos and we confirm.
Can big lake-view windows be replaced the same size?
Usually, as one large fixed unit or a mulled set of windows that fills the same opening. Very large units can need extra hands or equipment to set, which is reflected on the quote.
When is the best time to replace cabin windows?
When you are not using the place. For many owners that is after the summer season or before it opens. Windows can be replaced in cold weather as well, one opening at a time.
Should cabin windows be insert or full-frame?
Insert where the frame and sill are solid, full-frame where they are rotted or the cabin is getting new siding. Many cabins end up with a mix, decided opening by opening.
