Replace Windows and Interior Trim, Whole House — Casing in Every Room
Old stained casing, new white windows. If the trim is going anyway, do it with the windows and every room is finished in one pass.

To replace windows and interior trim whole house, JMB Builders installs every window, then builds out each jamb with extensions and puts on new casing, stool and apron in the profile you choose, room by room. Windows and trim share one line-item quote and one schedule, so each room is finished before we leave it. Twin Cities metro, priced per project; painting is its own line.
- Windows and inside trim on one quote
- Jamb extensions, casing, stool and apron
- One profile chosen for the whole house

When windows are replaced, the inside trim often comes off anyway. Putting the old casing back means nail holes, split corners and a stained color that no longer goes with a white vinyl frame. Doing new trim in the same visit means it is fitted to the new window, the jamb depth is right, and the room is done when we leave it.
This is one job with one crew, not a window company followed months later by a carpenter. We pick a casing profile with you at the measure (flat stock, a colonial, a craftsman head, picture-frame or a stool and apron), and the same detail goes in every room so the house reads as one.

How it is priced: per project
Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:
- Number of windows and their sizes
- Picture-frame casing vs. stool and apron
- Profile and material: flat stock, MDF, finger-joint pine or stain-grade wood
- Jamb depth: thick walls or plaster need deeper extensions
- Wide sills and deep kitchen windows
- Painting as a separate line, or left ready for your paint
Send a photo of one window with its trim and a close-up of a corner. That shows the profile, depth and wall type.
How long it takes
Trim adds time per window, so plan on fewer windows a day than a bare install. Each room is trimmed before the crew leaves it. The full schedule is on the quote.

Situations and options
Picture-frame casing
Casing on all four sides with a mitered or butted bottom. Clean and modern, and it suits casements and sliders.
Stool and apron
A stool across the bottom with an apron under it, casing on the sides and head. The traditional look, and it gives you a sill to set things on.
Drywall returns
Some rooms can get drywall wrapped into the opening with a stool or no trim at all. We price it as its own line by room.
Replace Windows and Interior Trim, Whole House — Casing in Every Room: questions, answered
Should I replace interior trim when I replace windows?
If the old trim is stained and the new windows are white, or the casing is damaged coming off, yes. New trim is fitted to the new window and the room is finished in one visit. If the casing comes off clean and you like it, it can go back on.
What are jamb extensions on a replacement window?
They are strips of wood added to the inside edge of the window frame to bring it flush with the finished wall. Replacement windows are often shallower than the old ones, so without extensions the casing has nothing to sit on. They are ripped to depth on each window.
Can new window trim match the baseboard and doors?
Yes, if you pick a casing profile that matches the doors or plan to replace those later. Many people use the windows as the start of a whole-house trim change and do doors and base afterward.
Is white trim painted on site or prefinished?
Most paint-grade trim goes in primed, then is filled, caulked and painted. Painting is quoted as a separate line, or leave it primed and caulked and paint it yourself.
How many windows a day can be replaced and trimmed?
Fewer than a bare install, because each window gets extensions, casing and caulk before the crew moves on. The day-by-day schedule is written on the quote once we know the trim style and the number of windows.
Can you trim windows in stain-grade wood?
Yes. Stain-grade casing costs more than paint-grade because the joints have to be tight with no filler. Staining is a separate line on the quote, or you stain it yourself.
