Screen porch door replacement means a new wood or vinyl screen door fit to the porch opening and hung with hinges, a closer or spring, a latch and a sweep. JMB Builders replaces sagging or rotted porch and cabin screen doors across the Twin Cities metro and north to St. Cloud, fixing the posts and stops it hangs on first. Priced per door, with a reply to your photos within one business day.
- Priced per door
- Wood or vinyl, stock or ordered to size
- Posts and stops repaired first

A screen porch door is a light door on an opening that is often not square. Porch framing moves, posts settle, and the head of the opening racks. A wood screen door hung on two small hinges with a long spring, slammed all summer and left wet at the bottom will sag on the latch side within a few seasons.
Replacing one starts at the opening. We check the posts, head and stops for rot, square what can be squared, and pick the door: a stock wood screen door trimmed to fit, a vinyl screen door that will not rot, or a wood screen door ordered to the size of an odd opening. Wood doors get three hinges, a corner brace or turnbuckle where it helps, and the cut edges sealed before the door goes up.
Hardware is where these doors fail. We fit a closer or spring sized to the door, a latch that works from both sides, and a sweep so bugs stay out. Screen mesh is fiberglass, aluminum or pet-resistant. Painting or staining a wood door is quoted as a separate line — or leave it primed and paint it yourself.

Situations and options
Wood screen door
The classic look on an older porch or cabin. Painted or stained, with three hinges and a brace so it holds its shape. Needs paint now and then to keep the bottom from rotting.
Vinyl screen door
Does not rot or need paint. Lighter, and comes in fewer styles and colors. A good pick for a porch door that gets wet or is hard to keep painted.
Door ordered to size
For an opening that is not a stock width or height. A wood screen door is ordered to the measured size so it does not have to be cut down or shimmed into place.
Screen Porch Door Replacement — Wood or Vinyl, Hung to Close Right: questions, answered
Why does my porch screen door sag?
Most sag on the latch side because the door is light, hung on two small hinges, pulled by a long spring and slammed all summer. Wet bottoms and loose corner joints make it worse. A replacement gets three hinges, a brace where it helps, and a closer that does not slam it.
Should I get a wood or vinyl screen door for a screened porch?
Wood looks right on an older porch or cabin and can be painted or stained, but it needs upkeep. Vinyl does not rot or need paint but comes in fewer styles. Pick by how wet the door gets and how much you want to maintain it.
Can you get a custom wood screen door for an odd size opening?
Yes. When the opening is not a stock size, a wood screen door can be ordered to the measured width and height, so it does not have to be cut down or shimmed in. It takes longer to arrive than a stock door.
How do you stop a screen door from slamming?
Swap the long spring for a closer that is sized to the door and adjusted to close it gently, and add a stop so it does not bang the frame. A latch that catches on the first close keeps it from bouncing open. We set all three when the door is hung.
Do you replace screen doors on cabins?
Yes, across the Twin Cities metro and north to St. Cloud. For a cabin farther out, send the photos and the location and we will tell you whether we can take it on. Cabin porch doors usually need the post and stop rot fixed before the new door goes up.
What screen mesh is best for a porch door with a dog?
Pet-resistant mesh is thicker and harder to tear than standard fiberglass, and it is the usual pick when a dog pushes on the door. It blocks a little more view. A kick plate or push bar on the lower part of the door also helps.
