A sliding screen door is a light aluminum frame on two or four little rollers riding a thin track. The rollers wear flat, the track gets bent by a foot or a shovel, the corners of the frame loosen, and one day the door either drags or jumps off the rail every time you open it. None of that is a reason to buy a new patio door. Most screen doors are fixed with new rollers and ten minutes of adjustment; the rest need a straightened track, new mesh, or a new panel.
The catch is that screen panels are not one size. Every patio door brand uses a different frame height, track profile and roller style, and on a door older than a few years the original panel may not be sold anymore. Off-the-shelf replacement screens from the big box stores fit some doors and not others. When yours is not a stock size we measure it and order a panel built to the door, with rollers that match the track.
This is a small job by itself. It goes best combined with something else on the same visit — a new patio door, a storm door, weatherstripping or trim — but we do it on its own too, and we tell you which option makes sense from the photos before you decide.

Situations and options
New rollers and adjustment
The fix for most screen doors that drag or jump the track. Old rollers out, new ones matched to the track in, height adjusted so the door rides level and the latch lines up. Done on the spot.
Rescreen the existing frame
When the frame is straight but the mesh is torn or sagging. Old spline and mesh out, new mesh rolled in tight, corners checked. Pet-resistant mesh is an option if a dog or cat has been through it before.
Track repair
A bent track can usually be straightened; one worn through gets a snap-on stainless cover or a replacement track. Either way the new rollers have something smooth to ride on, which is what stops the dragging.
New screen panel, stock or custom
When the frame is bent, the corners are loose or the mesh is beyond it. We measure the opening and the track, order a panel built to the door with the right rollers, and install and adjust it.

Why won't my patio screen door slide?
Nine times out of ten the rollers are worn flat or the track under them is bent or full of grit. Sometimes the frame has racked and one corner is dragging, or the roller adjustment has backed off so the door sits on the track instead of the wheels. New rollers and a straightened, cleaned track fix most of them; a racked frame usually means a new panel.
Can you rescreen my sliding screen door or do I need a new one?
If the frame is straight and the corners are tight, we rescreen it: the old spline and mesh come out, new mesh goes in and gets rolled tight, and the door goes back on its track. If the frame is bent, the corners are loose or the rollers are a style nobody makes anymore, a new panel is the better spend. A photo of the frame tells us which.
Do you make custom-size sliding screen doors?
We measure your door and order a panel built to it, with the frame height, track style and rollers that match your patio door. That is the route for older doors, odd sizes and brands whose original screens are no longer sold. Stock panels from the home center fit some doors; when yours is not one of them, custom is the only way to get a screen that rides right.
Can the screen door track be fixed or does it have to be replaced?
A dented or bent track can usually be straightened back so the rollers ride smooth. A track that has been worn through by flat rollers gets a snap-on stainless track cover, which is a common repair part, or a replacement track if the door's design allows it. We look at it on site and do whichever gets the door sliding for the least money.
Do you fix swinging screen doors and storm doors too?
Yes. A hinged screen door or a storm door that will not close right is usually a closer, a hinge or a latch problem, and we handle those on the same visit. Full storm door replacement is its own job with its own page; send a photo and we will tell you whether it is a fix or a swap.
Can you put a stronger screen in for a dog or cat?
Yes. Pet-resistant mesh is a heavier vinyl-coated screen that stands up to claws and noses a lot better than standard fiberglass. It rolls into the same frame with the same spline. It is a little darker to look through, which most people stop noticing after a day.
