The front door on your Maple Grove house still works, but the weatherstrip is shot, the bottom of the jamb is soft and it looks like every other door on the street.

Entry door replacement in Maple Grove usually starts with the original builder steel door: dented, drafty and soft at the jamb feet. JMB Builders measures the opening, orders a prehung steel or fiberglass door in your size and swing, removes the old unit, repairs rot at the sill, sets the new door in a pan with flashing and trims it inside and out. Quoted per door from photos, or at a free in-home estimate.
- Priced per door
- Prehung door supplied and ordered to fit
- Rot at sill and jamb repaired

Production builders in Maple Grove hung a lot of the same front door: a six-panel steel slab in a pine jamb, often with sidelites on the bigger plans. Twenty to forty years on, the slab is dented, the factory paint is chalky, and the bottom of the jamb has soaked up water from the stoop until it crumbles when you push a screwdriver in.
Replacing the slab alone leaves that rot in place. We take out the whole unit, cut back to sound wood, replace the sill area and any soft subfloor, and set a new prehung door in a sill pan with flashing tape lapped at the sides and head. Then the door is shimmed plumb so it closes without slamming, foamed, sealed, and cased inside with brickmould outside.
This is also the time to change the look. Owners here often go from a plain steel door to fiberglass with a glass lite, or add a smart lock. If the door has sidelites, the whole unit is replaced as one. Painting is quoted as a separate line, or leave it primed and paint it yourself. We do the same work in Rogers and Champlin.

How it is priced: per door
Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:
- Steel vs. fiberglass, solid vs. glass, factory finish vs. primed
- A single door vs. a door with one or two sidelites
- How much rot is at the sill and jamb once the old door is out
- Siding or stone around the door and how the outside is trimmed
- Hardware: a basic lockset, a handle set or a smart lock
- Painting or staining, quoted as its own line
Send a photo of the door from outside and inside, a close-up of the bottom of the jamb, and a note on what door you want.
How long it takes
One entry door in a sound opening: about a day on site. A door with sidelites or rot at the sill takes longer. We place the order once the quote is approved.

Situations and options
Steel door, like for like
A new insulated steel prehung door in the same size and swing. The plainest swap, and a big step up from a dented builder door with tired weatherstrip.
Fiberglass with a glass lite
Fiberglass does not dent like steel and can be stained or painted. A half or full glass lite lets light into a dark front hall.
Door with sidelites
Many larger Maple Grove plans have a door with sidelites. The full unit comes out and goes back as one, with the same pan and flashing.
Entry Door Replacement in Maple Grove, MN: questions, answered
Should I replace just the slab on my Maple Grove front door?
Only if the jamb, sill and subfloor are sound. On most builder doors here the bottom of the jamb has taken water for years, and a new slab in a soft jamb fails the same way. We check the jamb with a pick before quoting and tell you which job you need.
Is fiberglass or steel better for a front door in Maple Grove?
Both work in Minnesota winters when they are installed square and sealed. Steel usually costs less but dents. Fiberglass does not dent, holds paint or stain well and is often the pick when the door faces the sun.
Do I need a permit to replace an entry door in Maple Grove?
Many cities do not require a permit for a same-size door replacement, but some do, and resizing the opening usually changes that. We check with the City of Maple Grove building department for your address and pull a permit when one is required.
Will my house be open while the front door is replaced?
Only for a few hours while the old unit is out and the opening is repaired. The new door is set and closed up the same day. In cold weather we keep the opening covered between steps.
Can you replace a front door with sidelites in Maple Grove?
Yes. A door with sidelites is usually replaced as one unit, so the new door, sidelites and frame are made together and fit the opening. The pan and flashing go under the whole unit, not just the door.
How do I get an entry door quote in Maple Grove?
Send photos of the door inside and out and the bottom of the jamb, and we reply within one business day. Or book a free in-home estimate and we measure it on site. JMB Builders is a licensed Minnesota residential building contractor, BC809005, based in Zimmerman.
