Price Per Window vs Whole House Price — Why Each Window Costs Less
One quote says a price per window; another gives one number for the house.

Price per window vs whole house price: JMB Builders prices each window on its own line, then totals them for the house. Each window usually costs less on a bigger order because the trip, setup, delivery, permit and clean-up are spread over more openings, not because of a sale. You see every per-window line, so you can drop or phase any of them. Twin Cities metro, priced per window.
- Priced per window, totaled per house
- Fixed costs spread over more openings
- Drop or phase any line

Every window job has costs that do not care how many windows are in it: driving out, setting up tarps and drop cloths, the delivery from the supplier, a permit when one is needed, and loading the old units for disposal. On one window those costs sit on one line. On twenty, they are split twenty ways. That is most of why the per-window number drops on a bigger order.
The other part is the order itself. Twenty windows of one line, one color and one glass package go on one order, are checked in once, and are installed in a steady rhythm. The crew is not switching between brands and details from house to house.
None of that needs a mystery whole-house number. We price each opening on its own line and total them. You can see what each window costs, compare it to another quote line for line, and decide which ones to do now and which can wait.

Three photos and a sentence is enough: a reply within one business day, or ask for a free in-home estimate. Or text the photos to 763-204-2099.
What you supply
- A count of the windows, or photos of each one labeled by room
- Which windows must be done now and which could wait
- Your line and color, or a request to price two
- Painting: quoted as a separate line, or leave it primed and caulked and paint it yourself
What JMB supplies
- An in-person measure of every opening before ordering
- A per-window line for each opening, then the house total
- Trip, setup, permit and disposal shown so you see what is shared
- One order for all the windows you choose
- Room-by-room install, every opening closed the same day
- A written note of brand, color and glass so a later phase matches
How it is priced: per window
Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:
- Number of windows on one order
- Window size and style: picture, casement, double-hung, slider, specialty shapes
- Insert vs. full frame on each opening
- Line, frame color and glass package
- Interior and exterior trim per opening
- Access: second story, over a roof, behind a deck
- Splitting the job into phases, which repeats the trip and setup
If you are deciding how many to do now, ask us to price it both ways: all at once, and the first phase alone.
How long it takes
One window: part of a day. A whole house on inserts: three to five windows a day, so several working days. Lead time depends on the brand and is written on the quote.

Situations and options
All windows on one order
Lowest per-window number, one set of install days, and every window matches.
Phased by side or floor
The worst windows first. The per-window number runs higher because the trip and setup repeat, but the specs are written down so the next phase matches.
Windows plus doors
A patio door or entry door added to the window order shares the same trip and setup and gets its own line.
Price Per Window vs Whole House Price — Why Each Window Costs Less: questions, answered
Is window replacement priced per window?
At JMB Builders, yes: each opening gets its own line with its style, size and install method, and the house total is the sum. Some companies give one number for the house. Ask for the per-window lines so you can compare and phase.
Is there a volume discount on replacement windows?
Not as a sale. The per-window cost drops on bigger orders because the trip, setup, delivery, permit and disposal are spread over more windows. You can see that on a quote that lists each window and the shared items separately.
Does replacing more windows at once cost less per window?
Usually, yes. The fixed costs of a job are split across more openings, and one order of one line installs faster than a mix. Doing them in phases repeats some of those costs.
What is per-opening pricing for windows?
Each window opening is priced on its own line for the unit, the install method and the trim it needs. Per opening and per window mean the same thing here; a mulled pair or a bay is one opening with its own line.
Why does one window cost more than each window in a whole house?
Because the trip, setup and disposal are all charged to that one window. On a whole house those same costs are spread out. If you know more windows are coming, ask for the price of doing them together.
Can I take some windows off a whole-house quote later?
Yes. Because each window has its own line, you can drop or postpone any of them. The per-window number on the rest may change a little, since the shared costs are spread over fewer windows; we show you the revised lines.
