Window replacement for a large house, 40 to 60 or more openings, is run as a schedule, not a visit. JMB Builders measures every opening in person, quotes it line by line grouped by elevation, places one order so color and glass match, takes delivery in stages, and installs room by room over several weeks across the Twin Cities metro. Priced per project. Send photos for a reply within one business day, or book a free in-home estimate.

  • Priced per project, broken out by elevation
  • One measure of all 40+ openings before ordering
  • Staged deliveries, room-by-room install

The whole-house window page on this site assumes a typical house: a dozen to twenty-some windows, done in a week or so. A large house is a different job. Forty or more openings means mulled units, tall stair windows, second- and third-story access, and more trim than most houses have in total. The work runs over weeks, so the plan matters as much as the install.

We break the house into elevations: front, each side, back, and any courtyard or porch walls. Every opening is measured and listed under its elevation with style, size, insert or full frame, glass and trim. That list is the quote, and it is also the install schedule. You can compare it line by line with any other bid, or take one elevation out and phase it later.

The windows go on one order through ABC Supply so frame color, glass package and grille pattern match on every wall. Big orders often arrive in more than one shipment; we stage deliveries so the windows in the garage are the ones going in that week, not all sixty at once.

Up to 3: one wide shot of the area, one close-up of the opening or trim, one of anything you're unsure about.

How do you want your quote?

Free, no obligation. Every quote is written and itemized, so you can compare it line by line.

What you supply

  • Brand, frame color, glass and grille choices for the whole house, made once
  • A clear path to each room on its scheduled day: furniture back, coverings down
  • Garage or covered space for the delivery being installed that week
  • One decision-maker we can reach during the job for anything found in the openings
  • Your paint or stain colors — Painting is quoted as a separate line — or leave it primed and caulked and paint it yourself.

What JMB supplies

  • One in-person measure of every opening, checked for rot, square and access
  • A line-item quote grouped by elevation, each opening listed
  • One order for the whole house, deliveries staged to the schedule
  • A written install schedule by elevation and room
  • Ladders, staging or a lift as each elevation needs, priced on the quote
  • Drop cloths and floor runners on the path from the door to each window
  • Sill pans, flashing, foam, sealant, interior and exterior trim or capping
  • Daily clean-up, haul-away of old units, photos in your job folder

How it is priced: per project

Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:

  • Number of openings and how many are mulled, tall or specialty shapes
  • Second- and third-story access: ladders, staging or a lift
  • Insert vs. full frame, decided opening by opening at the measure
  • Exterior cladding on each elevation: siding, stucco, brick or stone
  • Brand, frame material, glass package and grille pattern
  • Interior trim scope and any rot or framing repair found
  • Patio and entry doors added to the same order

For the first look, send one photo per elevation from the yard plus a photo of each window from inside, labeled by room.

How long it takes

Lead time depends on the brand and is written on the quote. Install runs several weeks for 40+ openings with one crew; the week-by-week schedule is written out by elevation before work starts.

How your project works

  1. 1

    Photos and a first reply

Send a photo of each elevation and each window labeled by room. We reply within one business day, or come out for a free in-home estimate.

  2. 2

    Full measure, every opening

Every window and door measured and inspected in person, then listed under its elevation with style, size, install method, glass and trim.

  3. 3

    One order, staged deliveries

The whole house goes on one order so color and glass match. Deliveries are timed to the elevation being installed.

  4. 4

    Elevation by elevation

Rooms are done in the written order. Each opening is closed the same day it is opened; trim follows so rooms finish as we go.

  5. 5

    Walkthrough per elevation

As each side is finished we walk it with you, operate every window, and put the photos in your job folder.

Window Replacement for a Large House — 40 to 60+ Openings: questions, answered

How long does it take to replace 40 windows in a house?

Lead time for the windows depends on the brand and is written on the quote. Once they arrive, one crew works through the house over several weeks, depending on how many are full frame, how many are upstairs, and how much trim each one gets. The schedule is written out by elevation before we start.

Why quote a big house by elevation?

Grouping the openings by front, sides and back makes the quote easy to check against the house and easy to compare with another bid. It also lets you phase: if the budget only covers three sides this year, you can see exactly what the fourth side will be. Each opening is still listed on its own line.

Do all 50 windows have to be delivered at once?

No. A large order is often shipped in more than one delivery, and we stage it so the windows on site are the ones going in that week. That keeps your garage usable and keeps glass from sitting around getting scratched. It is still one order, so color and glass match.

Can windows and doors on a large house go on the same order?

Yes, and it is the best way to get frame colors to match. Patio doors and entry doors are measured with the windows, listed on the same quote, and scheduled into the elevation they sit on. Doors are usually set on a dry day with the rooms behind them cleared.

Who do I call during a long window project?

One person at JMB Builders is your contact for the whole job, from the measure to the last walkthrough. If we find rot, a bad header or a cracked sill when an opening comes out, you hear about it that day with photos and a written change before more work is done.

Is a 5000 square foot house priced per window?

It is priced per project, with every opening listed so you can see what each one costs relative to the others. Access, cladding and trim vary so much across a big house that a single per-window number would hide where the cost really is. There are no dollar figures on this site; the quote has them.
