A bathroom vanity is the most common piece of furniture people buy and cannot get installed. Menards, Home Depot, Lowe's and the online sellers ship a cabinet, a top and sometimes a faucet, and none of them send anyone to put it in. Plumbers will do it, but most charge a plumber's rate for what is mostly carpentry. We do the carpentry side of the job, labor only, and the part that is plumbing is done by a licensed plumber.
The job is more than sliding a box against a wall. The floor is rarely level and the wall is never flat, so the cabinet gets shimmed and the back or the filler scribed to the wall. It has to be screwed into studs, not drywall, so it does not rock when someone leans on it. The drain and supply stubs have to land inside the cabinet with room for the trap; a vanity with a bottom drawer often does not clear the drain where it comes out of the wall, and that is a conversation to have before you buy, not after.
Send a photo of the old vanity with the doors open so we can see where the pipes come out, a tape across the space, and the listing or box label of the new one. We will tell you if it fits and what the hookups will take.

Situations and options
Same-size swap
The new vanity is the same width as the old one and the pipes land inside it. Old one out, floor and wall checked, new one shimmed level, screwed to the studs, top set, plumber connects. The cheapest version of this job.
Wider or narrower than the old one
A different footprint exposes unfinished floor, missing baseboard and a paint line on the wall. We cut the base back or add to it, patch the wall and get the room ready for paint, which is quoted as its own line.
Floating (wall-hung) vanity
A wall-mounted cabinet hangs on the studs, not the floor. We open the wall, add solid blocking at the mounting height, close it up and hang the cabinet dead level. The plumber's stubs have to sit within the cabinet body, so we check that before anything is ordered.
Vanity with a bottom drawer
Many new vanities have a full-width bottom drawer that hits the drain and trap where they come out of the wall. Fixes are a notched drawer, a shallower drawer box, or the plumber moving the drain. We tell you which from your photo before you buy.

Will you install a bathroom vanity I bought at Menards or Home Depot?
Yes. You buy the vanity, top and faucet wherever you like and JMB Builders installs it anywhere in the Twin Cities metro. We do the carpentry: removal, leveling, anchoring to studs, scribing, setting the top and faucet, caulk and any wall patching. A licensed plumber does the supply and drain connections, either on the same quote or your own.
Do you hook up the plumbing on the vanity?
The water supply and drain connections are plumbing, and in Minnesota that is a licensed plumber's work. We set the cabinet, top and faucet so everything is in place, then a licensed plumber connects the supply lines, the trap and the drain. We can bring one in and put it on the same quote, or you can use your own and we coordinate the timing.
How do I know if the new vanity will fit my plumbing?
Open the old vanity doors and take a photo showing the drain and the two supply stubs where they come out of the wall, with a tape measure across the width of the space. The new cabinet has to be wide enough and open enough behind the drawers for those pipes to land inside it. Send that photo and the new vanity's listing and we will tell you whether it fits or the plumber has to move something.
Can you install a floating vanity on drywall?
Not on drywall alone. A wall-hung vanity needs its mounting screws in studs or in solid blocking, and the factory bracket locations rarely line up with the studs. We open the wall behind the cabinet, add blocking at the right height, patch the drywall and hang the cabinet on it. Painting the patch is quoted as a separate line.
What if the floor is not level or the wall is not straight?
It almost never is. We shim the cabinet level and plumb, then cover the shim gap with a scribe moulding or a toe kick cut to the floor. Where the wall bows, we scribe the back edge of the cabinet or a filler strip so the top meets the wall without a wedge of caulk. That is what keeps the vanity from looking like it was dropped in place.
Can you replace the vanity and the bathroom floor at the same time?
Yes. Flooring goes in first, then the vanity sets on top of it so the finished floor runs under the cabinet and the toe kick sits clean. If you are doing tile or LVP in the room, tell us when you send the photos and we quote both together with the plumber's disconnect and reconnect on the same trip.
