Who installs Andersen windows you bought at Home Depot or a lumberyard? JMB Builders does, across the Twin Cities metro, labor only. We are an independent installer, not an Andersen dealer. Before you order we say whether each opening wants a nailing-fin unit or an insert and check the jamb depth. Then we pull the old window, pan and flash the opening, set the unit, foam it and trim it. Andersen sells through lumberyards, Home Depot and its own dealers, and a lot of Twin Cities homeowners pick the 100 Series (the Fibrex composite line) or the 400 Series (wood inside, vinyl-clad outside) and then go looking for someone to put them in. That is us. To be plain about it: we are an independent installer. We are not an Andersen dealer, we do not sell the window, and we do not speak for the factory. You buy the units; we install them to the instructions that ship in the carton.
Both series come two ways, and that choice decides the whole job. A new-construction unit has a nailing fin around the outside and needs the old window out to the studs and the siding cut back so the fin can be nailed and taped. An insert goes into the old frame after the sashes and stops come out, with no siding work. Order the wrong one and the window either does not fit or gets set in a way the guide never shows. A photo of the old window from inside and out tells us which one to order.
Jamb depth is the third thing people miss. An Andersen frame is shallower than most finished walls, so the inside needs extension jambs to reach the drywall. Andersen sells them for the unit, or we make them. Send a photo with a tape held across the old jamb from the drywall to the outside and we settle it before the order goes in.

- Factory extension jambs if you want them to match the window; otherwise we make them
- The interior casing profile you want when it has to match the rest of the house
- Exterior trim boards or siding pieces when the new unit is a different size than the old one

- Sill pan, flashing tape, shims, backer rod, low-expansion foam and exterior sealant

- Rot repair at the sill or jack studs when we find it, quoted first
- Photos of each finished window in your job folder
- Painting or staining the new trim, quoted as its own line, or leave it primed and paint it yourself

- Insert into the old frame vs. a full-frame nailing-fin install with the siding opened up
- Window size and type: a 400 Series casement pair or a big picture unit takes two people to set
- Second-floor openings that need staging or a ladder crew
- Siding type around the opening: vinyl and lap siding open fast, stucco and brick take longer
- Interior finish: extension jambs and casing vs. a drywall return
- Rot at the sill or framing under the old unit

Send the Andersen order printout or the label on the frame, a photo of each window from inside and outside, and a tape across the old frame. The quote covers the full install.
How long it takes
Inserts: three to five in a day. Full-frame 100 or 400 Series units with siding work: one to three a day depending on size, floor and siding.

Situations and options
100 Series with a nailing fin
The Fibrex new-construction unit most people carry out of Home Depot. Old window out to the framing, siding cut back, sill pan and flashing tape in, fin nailed and taped, exterior trimmed and sealed, inside finished with extension jambs and casing.
400 Series inserts
A replacement double-hung or casement that drops into the old wood frame after the sashes and parting stops come out. No siding work. The old frame has to be sound and square; we check it from your photos and again on install day before anything comes apart.
400 Series full-frame units
The wood-interior, vinyl-clad line from a lumberyard, with a fin. Same install as the 100 Series on the outside; on the inside the bare wood jambs get extension jambs and casing, then paint or stain as its own line.
Picture windows and mulled pairs
Wide fixed units and factory-joined pairs are heavy and go in as one piece. We bring two people, a rough-opening check before it comes off the truck, and staging for anything above the first floor.

Who installs Andersen windows I bought myself?
JMB Builders installs Andersen windows homeowners have already bought, labor only, anywhere in the Twin Cities metro. We are an independent licensed Minnesota contractor, not an Andersen dealer. You order the windows from Home Depot, a lumberyard or an Andersen dealer; we check the order against your openings, then remove the old windows, flash and set the new ones, and trim them inside and out. Priced per window, quoted from photos within one business day.
Should I order the Andersen 100 Series with a nailing fin or as an insert?
It depends on the old window. If the old frame is rotted, out of square, or you want the full glass size back, order the new-construction unit with the fin and plan on the siding being opened up around it. If the old frame is sound wood and the siding is stucco or brick you do not want to disturb, an insert into the old frame is the cheaper install. Send a photo of each window from inside and outside and we tell you which to order, no charge.
What is the difference between an insert and a full-frame Andersen install?
An insert keeps the old frame. The sashes and stops come out, the new unit slides into the old jambs, and it is caulked, shimmed, foamed and stopped in from the inside; the outside is untouched except sealant. A full-frame install removes everything to the rough opening, cuts back the siding, puts in a sill pan and flashing tape, and nails the fin to the sheathing. Full-frame is more work and more money per window, and it is the right call when the old frame is bad or the jamb depth is wrong.
How do I know the jamb depth to order for Andersen windows?
Measure your wall from the face of the drywall to the outside face of the sheathing at an existing window; that is the depth the finished jamb has to cover. Andersen frames are shallower than that on both series, so the difference is made up with extension jambs. Andersen sells them sized for the unit, or we mill them from pine or primed stock on site. Send a photo with a tape laid across the old jamb and we tell you what to order.
Are you an Andersen certified installer or dealer?
No. We are an independent installer and a licensed Minnesota residential building contractor, BC809005. We install Andersen windows the customer has already bought, following the installation instructions packed with the unit. Anything about the product itself, its warranty or its specs comes from Andersen or the store that sold it, not from us.
Do you install Andersen 400 Series windows from a lumberyard or Home Depot?
Yes, either. Lumberyards usually deliver 400 Series units to the driveway on a pallet; Home Depot units come from the store or curbside. Keep them upright, dry and out of the sun until install day. We open each carton, check it against the opening, and only then take the old window out, so a wrong or damaged unit never leaves a hole in the wall.
