Marvin is a Minnesota company and a lot of Twin Cities homeowners buy it on purpose, through a lumberyard or a Marvin dealer, then find out delivery to the driveway is where the service ends. We fill that gap as an independent installer. We are not a Marvin dealer and we do not sell the units; anything about the product comes from Marvin or the yard. What we do is install windows, including plenty of Marvin, and we install yours to the instruction sheet that comes in the crate.
The three Marvin lines people bring us install a little differently. Essential is fiberglass inside and out, the lightest of the three and the most forgiving. Elevate is fiberglass outside with a bare wood interior that has to stay dry and gets finished after it is in. Signature is the wood line, heavy, often big, and it wants a rough-opening check before the yard loads the truck. All of them are stiff frames that do not rack into an out-of-square opening the way a vinyl window will, so the opening gets fixed first, not the window.
Most Marvin jobs are full-frame: old window out to the studs, sill pan, flashing tape, fin nailed and taped, exterior trimmed, interior finished. Elevate and Signature also come as inserts for a sound old wood frame. Send photos of each window inside and out and we tell you which to order.
What you supply
- Marvin Essential, Elevate or Signature units sized to each opening, fin or insert as the opening needs
- The lumberyard order sheet or the label from each crate so we can check sizes and handing
- A dry, level place to stage the crates until install day, or a delivery date that matches ours
- The interior casing and stain or paint color you want on Elevate and Signature units
What JMB supplies
- A rough-opening check against the order before the yard schedules delivery, no charge
- Two people on every unit and staging for second-floor openings
- Removal and haul-away of the old windows and crating
- Sill pan, flashing tape, shims, backer rod, low-expansion foam and exterior sealant
- Siding, stucco or brick cut back and closed up around a full-frame install
- Extension jambs, casing, stool and apron, or a drywall return, on the inside
- Rot repair at the sill or jack studs when we find it, quoted before we go on
- Photos of each finished window in your job folder
- Staining or painting the wood interiors and new trim as its own line on the quote
How it is priced: per window
Quoted in writing from your photos within one business day. What moves the number:
- Full-frame fin install with the exterior opened up vs. an insert into a sound wood frame
- Unit size and weight: a Signature picture window or a mulled set takes two people and sometimes a lift
- Second-floor openings that need staging
- Exterior finish: lap siding is quick, stucco and brick take a day of patching per opening
- Interior finish: bare wood on Elevate and Signature that needs extension jambs, casing and finish
- Rot or bad framing under the old window
- Number of windows in one visit
Send the lumberyard order, inside and outside photos of each opening, and a tape across the old frame. If the units are already on site, add a photo of the crate labels.
How long it takes
Essential full-frame units: two to three a day. Elevate and Signature: one to three a day depending on size. Inserts: three to five a day.

Situations and options
Marvin Essential (fiberglass, fin)
The all-fiberglass line, usually ordered with a nailing fin. Old window out to the framing, pan and flashing tape, fin nailed and taped, exterior trim and sealant, inside finished with extension jambs and casing. No interior finish needed on the frame itself.
Marvin Elevate (fiberglass outside, wood inside)
Same outside install as Essential. Inside, the wood is bare, so we keep it dry from delivery through install, finish the jambs and casing, and stain or paint it as its own line, or hand it to your painter.
Marvin Signature wood units
The heavy wood line, often in large sizes and custom shapes. We check the rough opening before the order is final, bring two people and staging, and set it on a pan with the frame held straight so the sash operates the way it did in the showroom.
Inserts into an old wood frame
When the old frame is sound and the exterior is stucco or brick you do not want to open, an Elevate or Signature insert sits inside the old jambs. The sashes and stops come out, the unit goes in, and it is sealed inside and out with no exterior patching.

Who installs Marvin windows I bought from a lumberyard?
JMB Builders does, as a labor-only job across the Twin Cities metro. We are an independent licensed Minnesota contractor, not a Marvin dealer. The yard sells the windows and delivers them; we check the order against your openings first, then remove the old windows, flash and set the new ones, and finish the inside and outside. Priced per window, quoted from photos within one business day.
Do you install Marvin Essential windows labor only?
Yes. Essential is the all-fiberglass Marvin line and it is a straightforward full-frame install: old unit out, sill pan and flashing tape, fin nailed and taped, exterior trimmed and sealed, interior finished. You buy the windows through a Marvin dealer or lumberyard, we supply the flashing, foam, sealant, shims, trim and the labor. Send photos of each opening and the order sheet and we quote it per window.
What is the difference between Marvin Essential and Elevate for the installer?
On the outside they install the same way. The difference is inside. Essential has a fiberglass interior that is done when the window is set. Elevate has a bare wood interior that has to be kept dry, then finished after install with extension jambs, casing and stain or paint. That finish is a separate line on our quote, or you can have your own painter do it. Elevate units are also a bit heavier, which matters on second-floor openings.
Are you a Marvin dealer or authorized installer?
No. We are an independent installer and a licensed Minnesota residential building contractor, BC809005. We install Marvin windows the customer has bought elsewhere, to the instructions in the crate. Questions about the product, its specs or its warranty go to Marvin or the dealer that sold it. Questions about the install, the flashing and the trim come to us.
Can Marvin windows be installed as inserts in the old frame?
Some can. Elevate and Signature are both offered as insert units that sit inside a sound existing wood frame, which is the usual answer on stucco and brick houses where nobody wants to open the wall. The old frame has to be square and solid; we check it from your photos and again on site. Essential is normally a full-frame install with a fin. Tell us what the house is sided with and we tell you which build to order.
Who finishes the wood interior on Marvin Elevate windows?
We can. The wood comes bare, so after the window is set and the extension jambs and casing are on, staining or painting is quoted as its own line. Some homeowners have their painter do it, and that is fine; we leave the wood clean, filled and ready. Either way it should be sealed before the first heating season so the wood does not take on moisture.
