A linen tower is a tall, narrow cabinet for the bathroom, built to the space beside the vanity, at the end of the tub, or over the toilet. Built on site, it goes to the ceiling and is scribed to the wall so there is no gap to collect dust, with a base that matches the vanity toe kick and a top rail or crown that matches the room. Adjustable shelves inside, doors on the bottom, open shelves or doors up top.
A recessed linen closet is the same idea set into the wall between the studs, so the cabinet is only as deep as the wall and sticks out no more than the face frame. It is the answer for a small bathroom with no floor to spare. We open the drywall, check what is in the wall, frame the opening, and build the box into it. Pipes, vents or wiring in that bay change the plan; a plumber or electrician moves them if it comes to that, and often a neighboring bay is empty.
Bathrooms are wet. Boxes are plywood, not particleboard, with a finished back, and the face frame and doors are poplar and MDF for paint or hardwood to match the vanity. Painted cabinets get a hard enamel. A hamper drawer, a pull-out for cleaning bottles, or an outlet inside for a hair dryer are common adds; the outlet is by a licensed electrician.

Floor-to-ceiling tower beside the vanity
A tall cabinet the same depth as the vanity, doors below and open shelves or doors above, with the toe kick and the top rail lined up with the vanity and the ceiling. The most storage.
Recessed linen closet between the studs
A cabinet set into the wall so only the face frame stands proud. Wall depth limits the shelf depth, but it costs no floor. We open the wall and check the bay first.
Over-toilet cabinet
An upper cabinet or open shelves built to the wall above the toilet tank, scribed to the side walls, with a top rail at the ceiling. Uses the one wall a small bathroom has free.
Tower with a hamper drawer
A tall cabinet with a tilt-out or pull-out hamper at the bottom on full-extension slides and shelves above. The hamper lives where the laundry starts.

Can you build a linen cabinet into the bathroom wall?
Yes, if the bay behind the drywall is clear. A recessed linen cabinet sits between the studs, so we open the wall, look for pipes, a vent stack or wiring, frame the opening and build the box into it. An interior wall with nothing in it is the easy case. A wall with a drain or vent in that bay means moving to the next bay or having a plumber move the pipe.
How deep is a recessed linen closet?
As deep as the wall: the stud depth plus the face frame. That is enough for folded towels, toilet paper and bottles, not for a laundry basket. A floor-standing tower is deeper and holds more, but takes floor. Many bathrooms end up with a recessed cabinet on the wall by the toilet and nothing on the floor.
What is a bathroom linen cabinet built out of?

Can you match the linen tower to my vanity?
Yes. Send a photo of the vanity door and the toe kick. A painted vanity gets a paint-grade tower in the same door style, and the toe kick and top line up. A stained vanity gets a tower in the same species and door style, stained to match as close as the wood allows. Cabinet pulls the same as the vanity's.
Can you put an outlet inside a bathroom cabinet?
Yes, with a licensed electrician doing the wiring. An outlet inside a linen tower for a hair dryer or a toothbrush charger is a common ask. We leave the opening and the chase, the electrician runs it on the right circuit for a bathroom, and the cabinet closes over it. Tell us before we build so the box has the cutout.
Can a linen cabinet go over the toilet?
Yes. A cabinet or open shelves built to the wall above the tank, scribed to the side walls if it is in an alcove, and set high enough that the tank lid still comes off. It is screwed into the studs, not hung on drywall anchors. Doors or open shelves, to the ceiling or with a crown.
