Triple Pane Patio Door — Which Lines Offer It, Weight and Frost

You sit next to the patio door all winter and feel the cold coming off the glass.

A triple pane patio door has three layers of glass and two gas spaces, the warmest glass you can order on a new slider or hinged door. Not every line offers it: Andersen A-Series, ProVia Endure and MI V3000 sliders list it, and Andersen E-Series confirms it per order. JMB Builders orders and installs it across the Twin Cities metro, priced per door. Photos get a reply within one business day, or book a free in-home estimate.

  • Priced per door, triple-pane unit included
  • Lines checked against the brand's own list
  • Heavier panels set level on a full sill pan
New sliding patio door installed and trimmed inside a Minnesota home

Triple pane is a line-by-line option, not a box on every order form. From the brand data we keep: Andersen offers triple-pane glass on A-Series windows and doors, including its hinged and gliding patio doors, and confirms triple-pane on E-Series patio doors per order. ProVia lists its Endure all-vinyl sliding patio door in dual or triple pane. MI lists its V3000 sliding glass door with dual- or triple-pane Low-E argon glass. Andersen does not list triple-pane on the 100 Series, and the ProVia ecoLite slider is dual-pane.

Andersen is the brand confirmed at Minnesota ABC Supply branches, so an A-Series door is the most direct order. For ProVia, MI and other lines we confirm the exact door with our ABC branch before the quote is final. Lead time depends on the brand and is written on the quote; triple-pane units are built to order.

The third pane adds weight. A sliding panel rides on rollers sized for it at the factory, and a hinged triple-pane door hangs on its hinges, so the install matters more: the sill has to be flat and fully supported on a sill pan, the frame shimmed dead level and square, and the hinge side screwed into the framing. Done that way the panel glides or swings like any other; set on a crowned sill, a heavy panel drags.

Photos (optional)

Up to 3: one wide shot of the area, one close-up of the opening or trim, one of anything you're unsure about.

How do you want your quote?

Free, no obligation. Every quote is written and itemized, so you can compare it line by line.

What you supply

  • Which room the door is in and which way it faces
  • Slider or hinged door, and the frame material and color you prefer
  • Whether you want blinds between the glass, which some lines offer only on dual pane
  • Photos of the door from inside and outside and a close-up of the sill
  • Paint color for the new casing if you want it painted — quoted as a separate line

What JMB supplies

  • A check of which lines list triple pane in the door style you want
  • In-person measure of the opening before the door is ordered through ABC Supply
  • Removal and haul-away of the old door, frame and trim
  • Subfloor checked and leveled under the sill; rot repair quoted from photos
  • Full sill pan, flashing tape, low-expansion foam and exterior sealant
  • Frame shimmed level and square, rollers or hinges and the lock adjusted for the heavier panel
  • Interior casing and exterior trim; painting quoted as a separate line
  • Photos of the finished door in your job folder

How it is priced: per door

Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:

  • Triple pane vs. double pane on the same door, quoted side by side if you ask
  • The line: vinyl slider, fiberglass, or wood with a clad or composite exterior
  • Two-panel slider vs. a wider slider or a hinged door with sidelites
  • Low-e coating chosen for the direction the door faces
  • Grilles, and whether blinds between the glass are possible on that line
  • Sill and subfloor repair once the old door is out
  • Painting the new casing, quoted as a separate line

Tell us which way the door faces and whether the room feels cold near the glass. The quote can list a dual-pane and a triple-pane version of the same door.

How long it takes

One two-panel triple-pane slider in a sound opening: most of a day on site, with an extra pair of hands for the panels. Lead time depends on the brand and is written on the quote.

Situations and options

Andersen A-Series patio door

Hinged and gliding patio doors with a wood interior and a fiberglass and Fibrex exterior. Andersen lists triple-pane as an option on A-Series windows and doors. Andersen is confirmed at Minnesota ABC branches.

Andersen E-Series patio door

Built to order, wood inside with an aluminum exterior skin. Andersen confirms triple-pane on E-Series patio doors per order, so we check it before the quote is final.

ProVia Endure sliding patio door

An all-vinyl slider ProVia lists in dual or triple pane with its ComforTech glass. We confirm the line with our ABC branch before the quote is final.

MI V3000 sliding glass door

Vinyl slider with dual- or triple-pane Low-E argon tempered glass. MI offers blinds between the glass on dual pane only, so it is triple pane or built-in blinds, not both.

Triple Pane Patio Door — Which Lines Offer It, Weight and Frost: questions, answered

Which patio doors come in triple pane glass?

Per the makers' own product information: Andersen A-Series hinged and gliding patio doors, Andersen E-Series patio doors confirmed per order, the ProVia Endure sliding patio door, and the MI V3000 sliding glass door. Andersen does not list triple pane on the 100 Series. JMB Builders checks the exact door before the quote is final.

Is a triple pane sliding door hard to open?

Not when it is set right. The panel is heavier, so the maker sizes the rollers for it, and the sill has to be flat and fully supported so the panel does not drag. Set level and square, a triple-pane panel glides; on a crowned or sagging sill, any heavy panel sticks.

Will a triple pane patio door stop condensation and frost?

It helps. The inside pane stays warmer, so it takes more humidity before water or frost forms on the glass. It does not change the humidity in the house, so a steamy kitchen in a cold snap can still fog the bottom corners. Frost on the frame or the sill points to air leaks, which is an install detail, not a glass one.

What is the warmest sliding patio door I can buy?

The warmest combination is triple-pane glass with a low-e coating and gas fill in a frame that does not conduct cold, such as vinyl, fiberglass or wood with a clad or composite exterior, set on a sealed sill pan. Compare the U-factor on each door's NFRC label; the lower number insulates better. The install decides whether the door feels as warm as the label says.

Can I get blinds between the glass on a triple pane patio door?

It depends on the line. MI offers blinds between the glass on its V3000 slider in dual pane only, so on that door it is one or the other. We check the line you are looking at before the quote is final.

Is a triple glazed sliding door worth it in Minnesota?

It does the most on a north-facing door, a door next to where you sit, or a room that already feels cold, and it also cuts road noise. On a small shaded door that nobody sits by, double pane with low-e and argon is the sensible pick. Ask for both on one quote and decide with the two lines side by side.
