To replace multiple patio doors, such as the upper deck slider, the walkout door below it and a third to the porch, JMB Builders measures each one in person, orders them together so frame color, glass and screens match, and sets each door the same day it comes out. Twin Cities metro and north to St. Cloud, priced per door on a line-item quote. Photos get a reply within one business day, or book a free in-home estimate.
- Priced per door, each its own line
- One measure, one order, matched frames and glass
- Each door closed the day it comes out

Lake homes and walkouts often have more than one patio door on the back wall: a slider to the upper deck, a walkout door below it, sometimes a third to a porch or a primary bedroom. They were all installed the same year and they fail the same way, so replacing them together makes sense. The part that needs care is making them look like one set when they are not all the same size.
Each door is measured in person at one visit, before anything is ordered. Sizes, operating sides and sill heights get written down door by door, and you decide once on frame color inside and out, glass, grille pattern and screen style. Then the doors go in as one order, so the white on the upper slider matches the white on the walkout and the glass tint is the same across the back of the house. Panel heights are matched where the openings allow it.
On install days each door comes out and the new one goes in the same day, sealed and locking before the crew leaves. Two doors in one day is often possible when the sills are sound; a rotted subfloor at the walkout adds time. Floors are covered from the door to the work path, furniture near the glass is moved and protected, and the upper door is worked from the deck or staging rather than from the lawn below.

How it is priced: per door
Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:
- Number of doors and the size of each
- Sliding, hinged French or a mix
- Rot at the sill or subfloor, especially at walkout doors on slab
- Access to upper-level doors from a deck or staging
- Frame material and color, glass and grilles
- Brand and line; the lead time depends on the brand and is written on the quote
Send one photo per door from outside showing the deck or patio, and one of each sill from inside. We reply within one business day.
How long it takes
Each door goes in the day it comes out; two doors in one day is often possible when the sills are sound. Three doors usually take two to three days. Lead time depends on the brand and is written on the quote.

Situations and options
Same-size matched sliders
Two or three openings the same size, ordered as one set with the same operating side and screens. The simplest version to keep matched.
Mixed sizes, one look
A wide upper slider and a narrower walkout door, ordered in the same frame color, glass and grille pattern so the back of the house reads as one set.
Slider and French door together
Some owners keep sliders on the deck and put a hinged French door at the porch. The frame colors and glass still go on one order.
Replace Multiple Patio Doors — Two or Three Sliders Matched: questions, answered
Can two patio doors be replaced on the same day?
Often, yes, when the sills and subfloor are sound and both doors are on hand. Each door is out and back in the same day either way. If the walkout sill is rotted, that door gets more time and the second door may move to the next day.
Will my new patio doors match each other?
They match when they are measured once and ordered together. Frame color, glass, grilles and screens are chosen once for the set and go on one order. Where the openings are different sizes, the panel heights are matched as closely as the openings allow.
Should I replace all my patio doors at once or one at a time?
Measuring and ordering them together is what keeps them matched. The install can still be phased if the budget calls for it, because each door is its own line on the quote. A door ordered years later can come in a slightly different shade or glass.
How do you replace a patio door on an upper deck?
The door is worked from the deck and from inside. The old door comes out in pieces where it has to, and the new frame and panels are carried in through the house or lifted from the deck. Nothing is staged on the lawn below the opening.
Why are the floors rotten at my walkout patio door?
Walkout doors sit low, close to the grade and the patio, and an old door set without a sill pan lets water run under the sill for years. The rot is repaired before the new door goes in, and the new one sits in a full-length sill pan.
Can I change which side my patio doors open on?
Yes. The operating side is chosen for each door at the measure and ordered that way. It is worth thinking about where the grill, the table and the deck stairs are before deciding.
