When you replace all exterior doors at once, JMB Builders measures every door in person, orders them in one package so the finish, glass and hardware match, and installs one or two a day so each opening is closed before the crew leaves. Front, back, garage entry and patio doors, across the Twin Cities metro. Priced per door on a line-item quote. Photos get a reply within one business day, or book a free in-home estimate.
- Priced per door, each on its own line
- Every door measured in person before ordering
- Locksets can be ordered keyed alike

Doing every exterior door in one project is a different job from one door. Four or five openings means four or five sets of measurements, handings, jamb widths and sill heights, and any one of them ordered wrong holds up the whole schedule. So every door is measured in person, the same visit, before anything is ordered. That visit is also where you decide the things that have to match: the exterior color, the glass style, the hardware finish, and whether the locks should take one key.
Then the doors go in as one order. One order means one delivery window and one finish run, so the front door and the back door are the same color, not two batches a few months apart. The quote lists each door as its own line: door, frame repair, trim, hardware, painting. That makes it easy to compare with another quote, or to drop the patio door to next year without redoing the rest.
On install days we work one or two doors a day, and each opening is closed and locking before the crew leaves. Floors inside each door get covered, and the furniture near the patio door gets moved and protected. The door from the garage into the house is ordered to the code requirement for that wall. Rot found under a sill is repaired before the new door goes in, and that is priced on the quote from the measure, not discovered as a surprise.

How it is priced: per door
Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:
- Number and type of doors: entry, sidelite unit, back, garage entry, patio
- Steel, fiberglass or wood, and the glass in each door
- Rot at sills, jambs or subfloor found at the measure
- Brick, stucco or siding around each opening
- Hardware: handlesets, keyed-alike locks, smart locks
- Storm doors added over any of the entries
- Brand and line; the lead time depends on the brand and is written on the quote
Send one photo of each door from outside and one of each sill from inside. We reply within one business day, or book a free in-home estimate.
How long it takes
Usually one or two doors per day once they arrive, each closed the same day. A house with four or five doors runs about two to four working days. Lead time depends on the brand and is written on the quote.

Situations and options
Matched set
Every entry door in the same color and glass family, with the same hardware finish and one key. The patio door is ordered in a matching frame color.
Front door upgraded, others plain
A fiberglass front door with glass, and insulated steel doors at the back and garage entry. Still one order, one finish color and one schedule.
Phased
Every door is measured now and quoted line by line. The worst ones go first; the rest are ordered later to the same color and hardware.
Replace All Exterior Doors — Front, Back, Garage Entry and Patio: questions, answered
Is it cheaper to replace all exterior doors at once?
It usually saves on the parts of the job that repeat: one measure visit, one delivery, one set-up and one haul-away. The doors themselves are priced per door either way. The quote lists each door on its own line so you can see exactly what doing them together changes.
How long does it take to replace every exterior door in a house?
Install is usually one or two doors per day, so four or five doors runs about two to four working days. Each opening is closed and locking before the crew leaves. The wait for the doors depends on the brand and is written on the quote.
Can all my new exterior doors use the same key?
Yes. Locksets and deadbolts can be ordered keyed alike so one key opens the front, back and garage entry. Decide at the measure so the hardware is ordered that way. Smart locks can be part of the same order.
Does the door from the garage into the house have special rules?
Yes. The door between an attached garage and the house has to meet a code requirement for that wall, and it is ordered to that requirement. If it has a self-closer or a pet door now, that gets looked at during the measure.
Should the patio door be included with the other exterior doors?
It can be. Ordering the patio door in the same frame color with the entry doors keeps the outside of the house consistent. If the budget is tight, it is often the one people phase to later, and it stays its own line on the quote.
Do I need to be home while all the doors are being replaced?
Someone needs to let the crew in each morning and see each door working before we leave it. You do not need to be there all day. You have one number to call during the job, and finished photos of every door go in your job folder.
