Princeton trim that either needs to match what the house was built with, or needs to be added because the builder left it out.

A trim carpenter in Princeton MN does two kinds of work: matching the wide casing, tall base and stained doors in the older homes near the town center, and adding casing, taller base and crown to the plainer 1990s-and-newer houses along the highway. JMB Builders, a short run up 169 from Zimmerman, does both. Baseboard is priced per linear foot and casing per opening.
- Baseboard per foot, casing per opening
- Older profiles matched, not replaced
- Short run up 169 from Zimmerman

Princeton's older in-town homes, from the early 1900s through mid-century, still carry a lot of original millwork: wide flat or molded casing, tall baseboard, and stained wood doors. When a window or a door is replaced, or a wall is opened, the new trim has to match it. We take a profile off the existing piece, find or build it up from stock moldings, and finish it to blend. Pulling all of it out to start over is rarely the better answer in those houses.
Homes built along the highway corridor from the 1990s on are the opposite job. Windows are wrapped in drywall with only a sill, the base is a short ranch profile, and there is no crown. Casing those windows, running taller base and shoe, and adding crown in the main living area is a common one- or two-day job. Basement finishes in those homes need a full trim package: base, casing and door trim to match upstairs.
Because Princeton is a short drive up 169 from our base in Zimmerman, a single day of trim work is easy to schedule. We also trim out windows and doors that another installer left bare, whether they came from us or not.

What you supply
- A photo of each room from the doorway and a close-up of the existing trim
- A loose piece of the old casing or base if one is available, so we can match it
- Paint-grade or stain-grade, and your color if we are finishing it
- Trim you already bought, with the footage and a photo of the label
What JMB supplies
- Baseboard, shoe, casing and crown in primed MDF, finger-jointed pine or stain-grade wood
- Older profiles matched with stock or built-up moldings
- Coped inside corners and glued outside miters, base scribed to the floor
- Jamb extensions, stool and apron where drywall-return windows get cased
- Removal and haul-away of the old trim
- Filled, caulked and primed; painting or staining quoted as its own line
- Photos of the finished rooms in your job folder
How it is priced: per linear foot
Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:
- Linear feet of baseboard and crown, and the count of window and door openings
- Matching an older profile vs. a stock profile off the shelf
- Stain-grade wood to match original stained millwork vs. paint-grade
- Out-of-level floors and out-of-square walls in older homes
- Jamb extensions on drywall-return windows
- Removing old trim without damaging plaster or drywall
Send room photos, a close-up of the trim profile, and a count of windows and doors. Rough wall lengths help.
How long it takes
Casing a few drywall-return windows: a day. Base, shoe and crown on a main floor: one to two days. Matching stained trim in an older home takes longer per opening, set by the profile.

Trim Carpenter in Princeton, MN: questions, answered
Can you match the old stained trim in my Princeton house?
In most cases, yes. We take the profile off a piece of the existing casing or base and match it from stock moldings or build it up from two or three pieces. The wood species and stain are matched too, so a new window or doorway does not stand out as a patch. Send a close-up photo of the profile and a photo of the whole opening.
My newer Princeton home has drywall around the windows. Can you add wood casing?
Yes. We add jamb extensions to bring the window jamb out to the wall, then a stool and apron or a picture-frame casing around it. It is one of the most common trim jobs in the 1990s-and-newer homes along the highway. Casing is priced per opening.
How much does a trim carpenter cost in Princeton?
Baseboard and crown are priced per linear foot and casing per opening, set by the profile, paint or stain, and how much old trim comes out. There are no prices on this site. Send photos of the rooms and we reply within one business day, or book a free in-home estimate.
Do you trim out a finished basement in Princeton?
Yes. A basement trim package is baseboard, window casing or returns, and door casing, usually matched to the main floor so the house reads as one. We hang the basement doors at the same visit if they are part of the job.
Do you paint the trim you install?
We can. New trim goes in filled, caulked and primed, and painting or staining is quoted as a separate line. Or leave it primed and caulked and paint it yourself.
Do you do trim work in Cambridge and Big Lake as well?
Yes. From our base in Zimmerman we do trim work in Cambridge, Big Lake, Elk River and across the north metro. Send photos for a reply within one business day, or book a free in-home estimate.
