A trim carpenter in Champlin, MN mostly upgrades the budget trim in the city's late-1970s to 1990s two-stories and split-levels: taller baseboard, cased windows in place of drywall returns, crown on the main level, and the seat and returns on bay and bow windows. JMB Builders, licensed and based in Zimmerman, does this work in Champlin regularly. Base and crown are priced per linear foot, casing per opening. Send photos and we reply within one business day.

  • Base and crown per foot, casing per opening
  • Taller base, cased windows, main-floor crown
  • Bay and bow window seats trimmed out

Most Champlin houses went up between the late 1970s and the 1990s, and the trim was where builders saved. Base is short and plain, casing is a thin ranch profile, and many windows were finished with drywall wrapped into the opening and no wood at all. Crown is rare. None of it is broken; it just looks unfinished next to everything else people have updated since.

The upgrade usually starts on the main level. A taller base, with a cap if you like the look, goes around every room. Windows with drywall returns get jamb extensions, a stool and apron, and casing; windows that already have thin casing get new casing or a back band added. Crown goes in the living room, dining room and kitchen. Bay and bow windows, common in these houses, get a new seat board, head board and returns that are often water-stained or loose by now.

The basement is the other big one. Many Champlin lower levels are being finished now, and we trim them out after the drywall: doors, casing, base scribed to the slab, and the egress window. We have done installs in Champlin four times this year, May through August 2026, and we also work in Maple Grove and Dayton.

How it is priced: per linear foot

  • Linear feet of base and crown, and the number of windows and doors
  • Windows with drywall returns that need jamb extensions and a stool
  • Bay and bow windows, priced as their own openings
  • Base height and whether it gets a cap or the casing a back band
  • Removing and disposing of the old trim
  • Paint-grade MDF or pine vs. stain-grade wood

Send a photo of each room, a close-up of the base and one window, and a count of openings including any bay or bow window.

How long it takes

One room of base and casing: part of a day. A main level with crown and a bay window: three to four days. A basement trim package: two to four days.

Trim Carpenter in Champlin, MN: questions, answered

What is the most common trim upgrade in Champlin homes?

A taller baseboard and cased windows on the main level, usually with crown in the living and dining rooms. Champlin's late-1970s to 90s homes were trimmed with short base and thin casing, or drywall returns at the windows. Replacing that is the update owners notice most.

Can you put wood casing on windows that have drywall returns?

Yes. We add jamb extensions inside the drywall opening, a stool and apron at the bottom if you want a sill, and casing around it. The drywall corner bead is cut back where the jamb goes in. Send a close-up of a window and the wall thickness if you know it.

My bay window seat in Champlin is stained and loose. Can you replace it?

Yes. We remove the old seat board, head board and returns, cut new ones to the angles of the unit, and case and trim the opening. If the stain came from a leak, the leak needs to be found and fixed first, or the new wood will stain the same way.

Do you trim out finished basements in Champlin?

Yes. Once the drywall is taped and primed we hang and case the doors, run base scribed to the slab, and trim the egress window. One price covers the whole trim package, quoted from photos and a door count.

How is trim carpentry priced in Champlin?

Base and crown are priced per linear foot, and window and door casing per opening, with bay and bow windows quoted on their own. Removal, profile height and windows that need jamb extensions move the number. Send photos and we reply within one business day, or book a free in-home estimate.

Does JMB paint the trim after it is installed?

Yes, if you want it done. Trim goes up primed, filled and caulked, and painting is quoted as a separate line. Or leave it primed and caulked and paint it yourself.
