Trim Carpenter in Andover, MN
The trim in your Andover two-story is the same skinny casing and short base the builder put in thirty-some years ago, and the miters have opened up.

A trim carpenter in Andover, MN from JMB Builders replaces the thin casing and short base that came with most 1980s–90s two-stories and splits, adds crown where the ceilings allow it, and trims out finished basements. Inside corners are coped and base is scribed to the floor. Base is priced per linear foot and casing per opening. Send photos and we reply within one business day, or we come out for a free in-home estimate.
- Base per linear foot, casing per opening
- Builder trim out, taller profiles in
- Basement trim packages

Andover filled in fast through the 1980s and 90s, and most of those houses were trimmed with whatever the builder package included: narrow casing, a short base, and oak or painted pine depending on the year. Decades later the miters have opened, the caulk has cracked, and the trim looks undersized against the rooms.
Changing it is one of the biggest visual changes you can make without moving a wall. A taller base and a wider casing in primed pine or MDF go in room by room, coped and scribed, with the old trim hauled away. Plenty of Andover two-stories still have honey oak on the main floor; we lay out what it takes to replace it and what it takes to paint it, so you can decide what is worth doing now and what can wait.
Basements are the other half. Many finished lower levels here have bare drywall returns or doors that were never cased. A basement trim package covers base, door and window casing and closet openings in one visit. We had an install in Andover in April 2026, and we run trim in Ham Lake and Coon Rapids too.

- Crown on high or vaulted ceilings, which needs staging
- Painting, quoted as a separate line
Send one photo per room, a close-up of the casing and base, and the number of windows and doors on each floor.

Situations and options
Taller base and wider casing
The core upgrade for 1980s–90s builder trim. Every room gets the same profile so the lines carry through doorways.
Basement trim package
Base, door and window casing and closet openings for a newly finished lower level, done in one visit after the drywall and flooring are in.
Crown in the main rooms
Crown in the living room, dining room or primary bedroom. Vaulted and two-story ceilings are looked at from photos first, since they need staging.
Oak to painted trim
Replace the builder oak with paint-grade trim, or keep it and have it painted. We price both so you can compare.
Trim Carpenter in Andover, MN: questions, answered
What baseboard height looks right in an Andover two-story?
Most builder base from that era is short for the rooms. A taller base in proportion to the ceiling height looks settled, and the casing usually steps up a size with it. We show you samples next to your wall in photos or on site before you pick.
Should I replace my oak trim or have it painted?
If the oak is tight and undamaged, painting it is usually less work than replacing it and keeps the profile. If the profiles are thin and you want taller trim anyway, replacing it makes more sense. We price both ways so you can compare.
Can you trim out my finished basement in Andover?
Yes. After the drywall and flooring are done we install base, door casing, window casing or returns, and closet trim in one trip. Send photos of each room and the door and window count and we quote it as one package.
I just got new flooring. Do I need new baseboard?
Often, yes. New flooring can change the floor height and leave gaps under the old base. We either reset and scribe the old base or install new, plus shoe where it helps. It is the cheapest time to change the trim height, since the base is coming off anyway.
Is new trim worth doing before selling a house in Andover?
Sometimes. Fixing open miters, cracked caulk and missing basement trim helps a listing. A whole-house profile change is a bigger project and may not come back at sale. We tell you which items are worth doing now and which can wait.
Do you do trim work in Ham Lake and Coon Rapids?
Yes. JMB Builders is based in Zimmerman and runs trim in Andover, Ham Lake, Coon Rapids, Anoka, Ramsey and the rest of the north metro.
