Interior door installation in Princeton MN depends on the age of the house. In the older in-town homes we usually fit new slabs to the original jambs and keep the stained casing; in the 1990s-and-newer homes we swap hollow-core builder doors for prehung or solid-core units. JMB Builders, based in Zimmerman, hangs each door plumb with even gaps and the latch catching. Priced per door.
- Priced per door, slab or prehung
- Old jambs and casing kept where sound
- Hung plumb, latches with a click

An older Princeton house usually has stained wood doors and casing from when it was built, and the openings have moved over the years. A prehung door would mean tearing out casing that is hard to match. More often we fit a new slab to the old jamb: plane it to the opening, cut the hinge mortises to line up with the old ones, bore the lockset and move the strike so it latches. The original casing stays.
The homes along the highway corridor from the 1990s on were built with hollow-core doors, often the same six-panel style on every opening. The jambs are usually still square, so owners can choose a slab swap to keep the casing, or full prehung units if they want new casing at the same time. Solid-core doors on bedrooms, bathrooms and an office are the most common upgrade there. Basement finishes add a few more doors to the list.

Interior Door Installation in Princeton, MN: questions, answered
Can you hang a new door in the old jamb of my Princeton house?
Yes. We fit the slab to the existing jamb by planing the edges, cutting hinge mortises that line up with the old ones, and boring the lockset where the strike sits. The original stained casing stays, so nothing has to be matched. It takes longer per door than a prehung unit, but it keeps the house's millwork intact.
Should I replace hollow-core doors with solid-core in my newer Princeton home?
On bedrooms, bathrooms and an office, most owners say yes: solid-core doors block more sound and feel solid when they close. Closets can stay hollow-core to keep the cost down. If the jambs are square, a slab swap keeps your casing; prehung units bring new jambs and casing.
How much does interior door installation cost in Princeton?
Each door is priced separately, set by slab vs. prehung, the door type and how much fitting the opening needs. Several doors in one visit bring the rate per door down. There are no prices on this site; send photos and we reply within one business day, or book a free in-home estimate.
Do I buy the doors or do you?
Either. Many owners buy doors at a lumberyard or a home center and have us install them; send the sizes and handing before you buy and we check them. Or tell us the style and core and we put the doors and hardware on the quote.
Do you fix doors that stick or will not latch?
Yes. In older homes that is usually a jamb that has shifted or a hinge that has worked loose; in newer homes it is often a strike that never lined up. Most are fixed by resetting hinges, planing or moving the strike, without a new door.
Do you install interior doors in Cambridge and Elk River too?
Yes. We are based in Zimmerman and install interior doors in Cambridge, Elk River, Big Lake and across the north metro. Send photos for a reply within one business day, or book a free in-home estimate.
