Interior door installation in Plymouth, MN ranges from fitting new stain-grade slabs to the original jambs in a 1960s–70s home to replacing hollow-core builder doors with solid-core in a 1990s two-story. JMB Builders mortises hinges, bores locks, hangs each door with even margins and matches the casing. Priced per door; a full set costs less per door than one. - Priced per door
- Stain-grade or paint-grade doors
- Slabs fitted to existing jambs

Plymouth has two kinds of interior doors. The 1960s and 70s homes often have flush birch or oak doors, stained, in jambs that are still solid. The 1990s and 2000s two-stories mostly got painted hollow-core six-panel doors, and owners there are moving to solid-core.
In the older homes the jambs and stained casing are often worth keeping, so we fit new slabs to the old openings. Each slab is trimmed to size, the hinge mortises are cut to line up with the existing ones, the lock is bored at the old height, and the latch edge gets a slight bevel so it clears. Stain-grade doors are finished to match the casing.
In the newer houses a full set is usually done at once: bedrooms, baths and an office in solid-core, closets left alone or switched to new bifolds. A pair of glass French doors on a main-floor office is a common add. We hang doors in Golden Valley and Maple Grove as well.

How it is priced: per door
Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:
- Number of doors in the job
- Slab fitted to old jambs vs. prehung replacement
- Stain-grade wood vs. paint-grade, and solid-core vs. hollow
- French doors and glass panels, which take more fitting
- Matching stained casing on prehung swaps
Photograph each door from both sides, note the size on the hinge edge, and tell us whether you are keeping the old jambs.

Interior Door Installation in Plymouth, MN: questions, answered
Can you fit new doors into the original jambs in an older Plymouth home?
Yes, when the jambs are straight and solid, which they often are in 1960s–70s homes. We cut the slab to the opening, line the hinge mortises up with the old ones and bore the lock at the original height. The stained casing stays in place.
Can new interior doors be stained to match my trim?
Yes. We order stain-grade doors in the species of the trim and test the stain on a sample before finishing. Staining is quoted as its own line, or you can finish the doors yourself.
Are solid-core doors worth it in a 1990s two-story?
For bedrooms, baths and an office, most owners think so. Solid-core doors block more sound and feel solid when they close. Closets can stay hollow-core to manage the cost.
Do I need a permit to add an interior French door in Plymouth?
Hanging doors in an existing opening is finish work. Widening the opening for a pair of doors changes framing, and a load-bearing wall may need a header sized by an engineer; most cities require a permit for that, and we check with the City of Plymouth building department.
Do you install doors I bought myself?
Yes. Send the order before you buy and we check size, handing and jamb width from photos. We install doors from Menards, Home Depot or a lumberyard.
How much does interior door installation cost in Plymouth?
It is priced per door, and the number depends on slab vs. prehung, stain-grade or paint-grade, and how many doors are in the job. We reply to photos within one business day, or we can price it at a free in-home estimate.
