Interior Door Installation in Buffalo, MN

Your Buffalo doors stick, rattle, or sound hollow when they close, and you want them replaced without tearing up trim you like.

Reply within one business day. Or call / text 763-204-2099.

Interior door installation in Buffalo, MN splits by house age. In the early-1900s homes in town we often fit a new slab into the original jamb so the old casing stays. In 1990s–2010s homes we usually swap hollow-core builder doors for prehung solid-core units, cased and latched. JMB Builders prices it per door from your photos or a free in-home estimate.

  • Priced per door, slab or prehung
  • Old jambs and casing kept where they are sound
  • Hung with even margins, hardware fitted

The older in-town homes in Buffalo, some from the early 1900s, often have door openings that are not a standard size and stained casing that would be hard to replace. Pulling the whole unit there means losing that trim. The better job is usually a new slab fitted to the old jamb: we trace the opening, cut the slab to it, plane the edges for an even gap, and mortise the hinges and bore the lock to line up with what is already in the frame.

Newer houses, built from the 1990s through the 2010s, have the standard builder package: hollow-core slabs in thin jambs with thin casing. Those swap cleanly for prehung units. Going solid-core in bedrooms and the office cuts the noise between rooms, and new casing goes on at the same time if you want to upgrade it.

Basement finishes are the third kind of call: every bedroom, bath, closet and mechanical room needs a door, and the floor heights are set by carpet or vinyl not yet down. We cut the doors to the finished floor so they clear without a big gap. If the doors come primed, painting them is a separate line on the quote, or you finish them yourself.

How do you want your quote?

Free, no obligation. Every quote is written and itemized, so you can compare it line by line.

What you supply

  • A photo of each door from both sides and a count of how many
  • Which ones are slab swaps and which are full prehung replacements, or ask us
  • The doors and hardware if you bought them (send the labels first and we check size and swing)
  • Or the style you want, and we put the doors on the quote

What JMB supplies

  • Old doors, and jambs where replaced, removed and hauled away
  • Slabs traced, cut and planed to old jambs, hinges mortised and lock bored
  • Prehung units shimmed at the hinges and strike, set plumb with even margins
  • Casing in a standard profile, or the old casing put back
  • Knobs or levers, stops and strikes adjusted so every door latches
  • Door painting or staining as its own quote line, if wanted
  • Photos of the finished doors in your job folder

How it is priced: per door

Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:

  • Slab fitted to an old jamb vs. a full prehung unit
  • Hollow-core vs. solid-core, panel or glass styles
  • Non-standard openings in older homes that need a slab cut down
  • Keeping and resetting old casing vs. new casing
  • Number of doors; more in one visit lowers the per-door rate

Send a photo of each opening from both sides, the door labels if you already bought them, and tell us which old casing you want kept.

How long it takes

Prehung doors: two to four in a day. Slabs fitted to old jambs take longer per door. A whole house of ten or more usually runs two to four days.

Situations and options

Slab fitted to the original jamb

For the older homes with stained casing worth keeping: a new slab traced and cut to the old opening, hinges and lock lined up with the existing frame.

Prehung solid-core swap

Builder hollow-core doors out, prehung solid-core in, for quieter bedrooms and an office. The usual choice in the 1990s to 2010s homes.

Basement finish doors

Prehung doors for every new room, cut to the finished floor height and cased to match the rest of the basement trim.

French or glass-panel door

A glass door into an office or den that keeps the room separate but lets the light through from the windows.

Interior Door Installation in Buffalo, MN: questions, answered

Can you replace an old door without replacing the frame?

Yes, if the jamb is solid and close to square. We trace the opening onto the new slab, cut it to size, plane it for an even gap, and mortise the hinges and bore the lock to match the frame. The old casing never comes off. It is the usual way to replace doors in older homes with trim worth keeping.

Should I get solid-core doors?

For bedrooms, baths and an office, usually yes. A solid-core door blocks noticeably more sound and closes with weight. Closets and a pantry are fine in hollow-core. Many people mix the two to keep the cost down.

How is interior door installation priced?

Per door. Slab fitting versus prehung, the door style, keeping the old casing, and how many doors are in the job set the rate. There are no prices on this site; photos of each door get a reply within one business day, or book a free in-home estimate.

Can I buy the doors myself?

Yes. Many people buy doors at a home center and hire us to install them. Send us the labels or order before you buy and we check the size, the swing and the jamb width. If you would rather not shop, we put the doors on the quote.

Do I need a permit to replace interior doors?

Swapping a door in an existing opening is not usually permitted work. Cutting a new opening or moving a wall is different and often needs one. We check with the City of Buffalo building department when a door job changes the framing.

Do you install interior doors in Monticello and Albertville?

Yes. We are based in Zimmerman and hang doors in Buffalo, Monticello, Albertville and across the Twin Cities metro. A photo of each door gets a reply within one business day, or we can look at them in person at a free in-home estimate.
