Interior door installation in Blaine, MN means replacing the flat hollow-core slabs in the city's older ramblers and split-entries, and the molded builder doors in its 1990s–2000s homes, with prehung or solid-core doors. JMB Builders, a licensed Minnesota contractor based in Zimmerman, hangs each door plumb with even gaps, cases it and fits your hardware. Priced per door. Send photos and we reply within one business day, or book a free in-home estimate.
- Priced per door
- Prehung units or slabs fit to the old jamb
- Hollow-core to solid-core upgrades

Blaine's older core is ramblers and split-entries from the 1960s through the 80s. Their interior doors are mostly flat hollow-core slabs, often with a few decades of paint, and the jambs have shifted as the house settled, so the door rubs or the latch misses. On a split-entry the lower-level bedrooms usually got the cheapest doors in the house.
The 1990s and 2000s homes on the city's newer side came with molded two-panel or six-panel hollow-core doors. They hang fine but sound hollow and dent easily, and owners swapping trim often want solid-core doors to go with it. In a brand-new house the request is usually a style change: a different panel, a barn-style slab, or glass in an office door.
Most of these go in as prehung units: the old door, jamb and casing come out, the new unit is shimmed plumb at the hinges and strike, and new casing goes on. When the jamb is sound and the casing is staying, we fit a new slab to it instead, mortise the hinges and bore the lockset. We hang doors in Ham Lake and Andover as well.

- New casing on both sides vs. reusing the existing casing
- Openings out of square from settling in an older house
- Closet doors: bifold, bypass or a hinged pair
Send a photo of each door, a count, and which ones are full prehung swaps and which are slab-only.

Flat hollow-core slabs replaced with prehung panel doors, jambs shimmed plumb so the doors stop rubbing, and new casing that replaces the clamshell.
Solid-core upgrade in a 2000s home
Molded hollow-core doors swapped for solid-core doors in the same style, prehung or as slabs in the existing jambs, for quieter bedrooms and an office.
Closet doors
Bifold or bypass closet doors replaced or re-hung on new track, or a closet opening converted to a pair of hinged doors.
Interior Door Installation in Blaine, MN: questions, answered
Should I get prehung doors or just new slabs for my Blaine house?
If you are changing the casing too, or the jambs are out of square, prehung is the better job: new jamb, new hinges, set plumb. If the jambs and casing are in good shape and you are keeping them, a slab fit to the old jamb works and leaves the trim alone. We look at the photos and tell you which fits each door.
Why do the doors in my older Blaine rambler rub or not latch?
The framing has moved since the house was built, so the jamb is out of plumb and the slab hits the head or the latch misses the strike. Sometimes resetting the hinges and moving the strike fixes it. If not, a new prehung unit set plumb does.
Is a solid-core door worth it over hollow-core?
For bedrooms, a bathroom or a home office, most owners think so. A solid-core door blocks more sound, does not dent the way hollow-core does, and closes with a solid feel. It costs more and weighs more, so the hinges are screwed into the framing behind the jamb.
Can you install interior doors I bought at a store?
Yes. We install doors you bought from Menards, Home Depot or a lumberyard, labor-only, priced per door. Check the handing and the jamb width before you buy, or send us photos first and we will tell you what to order.
Do I need a permit to replace interior doors in Blaine?
Swapping a door in an existing opening is finish work. If the job widens an opening or changes framing, we check with the City of Blaine building department and pull a permit when it is required.
Do you replace interior doors in Ham Lake and Andover too?
Yes. JMB Builders is based in Zimmerman and hangs interior doors in Blaine, Ham Lake, Andover and across the Twin Cities metro. The process and per-door pricing are the same in each city.
