Storm damaged window repair in St. Paul, MN: JMB Builders photographs each window hit by hail, wind or a falling limb, upper floors included, lists it as glass, sash, screen, insert or full-frame replacement, meets your adjuster when you want us there, and repairs what is approved. You file the claim and deal with your insurer. Priced per window.
- Priced per window, line by line
- Upper floors reached and documented
- Insert or full frame, window by window

Many St. Paul houses are tall, Victorian-era and 1920s homes with two full floors and an attic, and the storm side gets hit top to bottom. The upper windows are the ones nobody looks at, and they are often where the cracked sash or split sill is. We photograph every window on the damaged sides, from a ladder or staging where it takes that, so the list your adjuster sees is complete.
The same house often has original wood windows next to replacements from different decades. Each is written up on its own: glass in a sound sash, a new sash, or a whole window. Where a replacement is needed, an insert keeps the old frame and casing when the frame is sound, and full-frame goes in where rot has taken it. Inside, back-band casing is reset or matched.
You file the claim and deal with your insurer. We give you labeled photos and a line-item list, meet the adjuster when you want us there, and do the work once it is approved. General contractors hire us for the window portion of insurance repairs in St. Paul too. Minnesota law bars a contractor from waiving, rebating or paying your deductible, and we do not.

How it is priced: per window
Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:
- Glass only, a new sash, an insert or a full-frame window
- Upper-story and attic windows that need ladders or staging
- Original wood windows vs. newer vinyl or clad replacements
- Rot found in a frame once the damaged sash is out
- Brick, stucco or siding disturbed by full-frame work
- Upgrades you choose beyond like-for-like, paid on top of the approved scope
Send one photo of each side of the house, then close-ups of every damaged window you can see, with floor and side noted.
How long it takes
Glass, sashes and windows are made to order, so most of the wait is the order. Inserts run a few hours each; full-frame or upper-story work with staging takes longer per window.

Storm Damaged Window Repair in St. Paul, MN: questions, answered
Can you reach hail damaged windows on the upper floors of an older St. Paul house?
Yes. We use ladders or staging to get to second-floor and attic windows, both to document the damage and to do the repair. Those windows are often missed in a quick walk-around, so we photograph each one and label it by floor and side.
My house has original wood windows and newer replacements. How is that handled on a claim?
Each window is written up on its own. A cracked pane in a sound wood sash is a glass repair; a split vinyl sash is a sash or unit replacement. Mixing the two on one house is normal, and the line-item list shows which is which for your adjuster.
Will a storm-damaged window be replaced as an insert or full frame?
It depends on the frame. If the frame is sound and square, an insert goes inside it and the casing stays. If the storm opened up rot, or the frame is split, it comes out and a full-frame window goes in with a sill pan and flashing. We show you the frame in the photos.
A tree limb broke my window in St. Paul. What should I do first?
Stay clear of loose glass and the limb, and photograph the damage before anything is moved. Close the opening with plywood or heavy plastic and keep receipts. Report it to your insurer and send us the photos; we write up the window and any trim or siding damaged around it.
Can JMB cover my insurance deductible?
No. Minnesota law bars a contractor from waiving, rebating or paying any part of your deductible, and JMB Builders does not. The deductible is your share of the repair and is paid as part of the job.
How long do I have to report storm damage to my windows?
Your policy sets that, and policies differ, so check your policy and ask your agent. Take dated photos as soon as it is safe so the damage is on record. Send them to us and we reply within one business day.
