Hail and straight-line wind come through central Minnesota most summers, and homes on open land around Princeton take them with little in the way. What the storm does to a window depends on the window. Original wood windows in the older in-town homes take hail as split paint, crushed glazing and dented wood on the sill and bottom rail. Builder-grade vinyl in the newer homes takes it as chipped sills, cracked sash corners and broken seals that fog later.

That difference shows up on the list we give you. A wood sash with sound wood and one cracked pane can be reglazed. A wood window that was already near the end can be a harder call, and we photograph its condition so the adjuster can see what the storm did and what it did not. A vinyl window with a split frame is a whole-unit replacement.

You file the claim and work with your insurer; we document, meet the adjuster when you want us there, and repair what is approved. Minnesota law bars a contractor from waiving, rebating or paying any of your deductible; JMB does none of those. For coverage questions and how long you have to report damage, check your policy and ask your agent.

Get a written quote for this job

Three photos and a sentence is enough: a reply within one business day, or ask for a free in-home estimate. Or text the photos to 763-204-2099.

Photos (optional)

Up to 3: one wide shot of the area, one close-up of the opening or trim, one of anything you're unsure about.

How do you want your quote?

Free, no obligation. Every quote is written and itemized, so you can compare it line by line.

What you supply

  • The date of the storm and any photos from that day
  • Your claim number and the approved scope when you have it
  • Any window labels, receipts or old paperwork you can find
  • Access to each damaged window inside and out

What JMB supplies

  • Photos of each damaged window with a tape for scale, labeled by side of the house
  • A line-item list: glass, sash, screen, wood repair or whole unit
  • Meeting your adjuster to walk the windows, when you want us there
  • Glass units, sashes or windows as the approved scope lists them
  • Sill pan, flashing, foam and sealant on full-unit replacements
  • Interior stool, stops and casing reset or matched where disturbed
  • Cleanup, haul-away and finished photos in your job folder

How it is priced: per window

Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:

  • Wood window reglazing vs. new glass in vinyl vs. a whole unit
  • Whether the maker still supplies sashes and glass for the window
  • Matching original wood casing and stool on an older home
  • Second-story windows that need ladders or staging
  • Upgrades beyond like-for-like, which you pay on top of the approved scope

Send a wide photo and a close-up of each damaged window. For wood windows, add a shot of the sill so the paint and wood condition show.

How long it takes

Most of the wait is ordering glass or sashes. Once parts are in, several glass or sash repairs fit in a day; a whole window is about half a day, more where old trim has to be matched.

Situations and options

Older wood windows

Cracked glass is replaced and the sash reglazed where the wood is sound. Dented or split wood on the sill is documented so your adjuster can decide how it is handled.

Builder vinyl windows

A new glass unit in a sound sash, a new sash by the label code, or a whole window when the frame is split.

Screens and storms

Torn screens and bent frames are listed on their own lines; they are easy to miss and quick to fix once approved.

Storm Damaged Window Repair in Princeton, MN: questions, answered

Who repairs storm damaged windows in Princeton, MN?

JMB Builders, a licensed Minnesota residential building contractor based in Zimmerman, with Princeton a short trip up 169. We photograph and list the damage, meet your adjuster when you want us there, and repair or replace what the approved scope covers. Send photos for a reply within one business day.

Can hail damage on old wood windows be repaired instead of replaced?

Often. If the sash wood is sound, a cracked pane is replaced and the sash reglazed, and dented paint is scraped and primed. If the wood was already soft before the storm, that is not storm damage, and we photograph the condition so the record is clear. How it is covered is up to your policy and your adjuster.

My vinyl window fogged a few weeks after a hailstorm. Is that related?

It can be. A hard hit can break the seal on an insulated glass unit without cracking it, and the fog shows up later. Photograph it, write down when you first noticed it and ask your insurer about adding it to the claim.

Do you deal with the insurance company for me?

No. You file the claim and deal with your insurer. We give you photos and a line-item list, meet the adjuster to walk the windows when you want us there, and do the approved repair. Coverage and deadlines are in your policy; check it and ask your agent.

Can a contractor waive my deductible in Minnesota?

No. Under Minnesota law a contractor cannot waive, rebate or pay any part of an insurance deductible, and we never offer to. A contractor who offers to is making it up somewhere else on the job.

Do you repair storm damaged windows in Cambridge and Big Lake?

Yes. We do the same documentation and repair in Cambridge, Big Lake, Elk River and Zimmerman, and on rural properties around them.
