Your Champlin front door is the one the builder put in thirty-some years ago, and it shows: worn weatherstrip, a tired finish and a lock you have to lift to latch.

Entry door replacement in Champlin, MN: JMB Builders replaces the original builder front doors on the city's late-1970s to 1990s two-stories and split-levels. We measure the opening, order a prehung steel or fiberglass door, remove the old unit, repair rot at the sill, set the new door on a sill pan with flashing and trim it inside and out. Each door is priced on its own; we reply to your photos within one business day, or schedule an in-home estimate.

  • Priced per door, door included
  • Steel or fiberglass prehung units
  • Flashed and sealed for wind exposure

Champlin's homes went up mostly from the late 1970s through the 1990s, and they were built to a budget. The front door on a two-story or split from that era is usually a stock steel slab with a thin weatherstrip and a threshold that has worn down. After thirty-some Minnesota winters the frame has moved, the door drags or will not latch without a lift, and the finish has chalked where the sun hits it.

Replacing it is a full unit job. We measure the rough opening and order a prehung door through ABC Supply in the swing and jamb width that fits your wall. On install day the old unit comes out, rot at the sill plate or subfloor is cut out and replaced, and the new door goes on a sill pan with flashing tape at the sides and head. Lots near the river take more wind, so we pay attention to the weatherstrip and strike so the door pulls tight to the seal.

A storm door over the new entry door is a common add-on and can be quoted as its own line. We have installed in Champlin four times this year, May through August 2026, and we also do front doors in Anoka and Brooklyn Park.

How it is priced: per door

Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:

  • Steel vs. fiberglass, glass lites, and factory finish or primed
  • Single door vs. a door with sidelites or a transom
  • Rot at the sill, jamb feet or subfloor once the old door is out
  • Same-size replacement vs. a resized opening
  • A storm door added over the new entry door
  • Hardware: basic lockset, handle set or smart lock
  • Painting the door and trim, quoted as a separate line

Send a photo of each side of the door, the threshold up close, and the porch or step in front of it.

How long it takes

One front door in a sound opening: about a day. Rot repair or an added storm door adds a few hours. The door is ordered after you approve the quote.

Situations and options

Fiberglass with a woodgrain finish

Stainable or factory-finished fiberglass that does not dent like steel. A common pick for a front door that faces full sun.

Insulated steel

A straightforward replacement for the original steel builder door. It needs paint to stay sealed and can dent if something hits it.

Entry door plus storm door

A storm door over the new entry door adds a layer against wind and gives a screened opening in summer. Quoted as its own line.

Entry Door Replacement in Champlin, MN: questions, answered

Why won't my Champlin front door latch unless I lift it?

The frame has moved or the hinges have sagged, so the latch no longer lines up with the strike. On a door from the 1980s or 90s it is often paired with a worn threshold and a soft jamb at the bottom. Shimming the hinges can buy time; replacing the prehung unit fixes the frame.

Is fiberglass or steel better for a Champlin front door?

Both are insulated and both work. Fiberglass resists denting and holds its finish better in full sun. Steel is a solid choice for a painted door and is usually the simpler replacement for an original steel builder door.

Do I need a permit for a new front door in Champlin?

That depends on the city and on whether the opening changes. Before each job we ask the City of Champlin building department and pull a permit if they require one. Resizing the opening or changing the header is the kind of change most cities want permitted.

Can you install a storm door when you replace my entry door?

Yes. The storm door is fitted to the new entry door's brickmould after the door is set, so doing both on one visit means one trip. It is quoted as its own line.

How long will my house be open when the front door is replaced?

A few hours at most. We leave the old door in place until the new one has arrived, and the opening is sealed up before we leave that day.

Do you replace front doors in Anoka and Brooklyn Park?

Yes. JMB Builders is based in Zimmerman and replaces entry doors in Champlin, Anoka, Brooklyn Park, Maple Grove and across the Twin Cities metro. The door is measured in person before it is ordered.
