Silver Line Window Installation, Labor Only — Home Depot Vinyl
You ordered Silver Line windows at The Home Depot, they are sitting in the garage, and the store's install schedule does not work for you.

Silver Line window installation labor only: you buy the V1 or V3 vinyl windows, usually at The Home Depot, and JMB Builders installs them across the Twin Cities metro. We are an independent installer, not a Silver Line dealer. We check the order against each opening, pull the old window, pan and flash the opening, set and foam the unit, and trim it inside and out. Priced per window.
- Priced per window, labor only
- V1 and V3 Series, insert or nail fin
- Independent installer, not a dealer

Silver Line is a vinyl window brand of Cornerstone Building Brands, sold mainly through The Home Depot. It used to belong to Andersen, which sold it in 2018, so it is not an Andersen product. Today it is sold in two series: the V1, an economy line of double-hung, single-hung and gliding windows, and the V3, a premium vinyl line with wider frames that adds casements, awnings and bay and bow units.
The older numbered windows people still search for have moved. The 8600 replacement double-hung now sits inside the V3 Series as the double-hung insert window, and the 8500 is discontinued. If you own 8500 or 8600 units and are replacing them, the label on the old window helps with sizing, and today's order is a V3 double-hung. The 2900 builder single-hung is now the V1 single-hung with a nailing flange.
We are an independent installer. We do not sell Silver Line windows and make no claims about the product beyond what the maker publishes. The install is ours: the order checked against each opening before it is built, the old window out, the opening panned and flashed, the unit set plumb and square, foamed, sealed and trimmed.

- Rot repair at the sill or the old frame when we find it, quoted before we continue

- Interior jamb extensions, casing, stool and apron, or drywall returns
- Sash and lock adjustment so every window opens, locks and seals
- Photos of every window in your job folder
How it is priced: per window
Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:
- Insert into the old frame vs. new construction with a nailing flange
- Window size and style: double-hung, slider, casement, or a V3 bay or bow
- Exterior: capping an insert vs. cutting back and patching siding around a flange
- Interior trim: reuse the old casing, new casing and stool, or drywall returns
- Rot at the sill or the old frame
- Second-floor openings that need ladders or staging
Send the Home Depot order sheet and a photo of each window inside and outside. We check sizes and the insert vs. flange choice before the order is built.
How long it takes
Inserts: four to six windows a day. Nailing-flange units: two to four a day, depending on the siding and interior trim.

Situations and options
V1 Series
Silver Line's economy line: double-hung, single-hung and gliding windows in custom sizes, for replacement or new construction. Order Low-E with argon for a Minnesota house.
V3 Series
Wider frames, tilt-in double-hung sashes, casements, awnings and bay and bow units. The V3 double-hung insert is what replaced the 8600.
Replacing old 8500 or 8600 windows
Fogged or failed 8500 and 8600 units are replaced with a current V3 double-hung, or with another brand if you prefer. The label on the old frame helps match the size.
Flange units for full-frame jobs
Where the old frame is rotted or the window leaks, a new-construction unit with a nailing flange replaces everything to the framing with new flashing.
Silver Line Window Installation, Labor Only — Home Depot Vinyl: questions, answered
Who installs Silver Line windows bought at Home Depot?
JMB Builders installs Silver Line windows homeowners have already bought, labor only, across the Twin Cities metro. We are an independent licensed Minnesota contractor, not a Silver Line dealer or a store program. We check the order, remove the old window, pan and flash the opening, set and foam the unit and trim it. Priced per window, with a reply within one business day.
Can I still buy a Silver Line 8500 window?
No. The 8500 is discontinued and does not appear in Silver Line's current materials. The 8600 lives on as the V3 Series double-hung insert window. If you are replacing old 8500 units, a V3 double-hung is the closest current Silver Line window.
Is Silver Line made by Andersen?
Not anymore. Andersen sold Silver Line to Ply Gem in 2018, and it is now a brand of Cornerstone Building Brands. Andersen's own entry-level line is the 100 Series, which we also install labor only.
Should I order Silver Line V1 or V3 windows?
The V1 is the economy line with the most common styles. The V3 has wider frames and adds casements, awnings and bay and bow units. For a Minnesota house, either one should be ordered with Low-E and argon; the V3 is the one to look at when you want casements on the windy side.
Should I order insert or new construction Silver Line windows?
If the old wood frame is square, dry and solid, an insert fits inside it and the outside trim stays. If the frame is rotted or the window leaks, a new-construction unit with a nailing flange replaces everything to the framing. Send photos of each window before you order and we tell you which each opening needs.
What trim do you put around a new Silver Line window?
A full-frame vinyl window sits at the outside of the wall, so the inside needs jamb extensions to bring it flush with the drywall, then casing, stool and apron or drywall returns. New trim goes in primed and caulked. Painting is quoted as a separate line — or leave it primed and caulked and paint it yourself.
