Andersen Patio Door Installation, Labor Only — Gliding and Frenchwood

The Andersen door is in the garage in its crate, the old slider is still in the wall, and the store's install date is weeks out.

Reply within one business day. Or call / text 763-204-2099.

Andersen patio door installation labor only: you buy the Andersen gliding or hinged door at Home Depot, a lumberyard or a dealer, and JMB Builders installs it across the Twin Cities metro. We are an independent installer, not an Andersen dealer. We pull the old door, repair the sill, set a sill pan and flashing, set the frame square, adjust the rollers or hinges and lock, and trim it. Priced per door, reply within one business day.

  • Priced per door, labor only
  • 100, 200 and 400 Series gliding and hinged
  • Independent installer, not an Andersen dealer

Andersen sells patio doors in several lines. The 100 Series gliding door is Fibrex composite. The 200 Series has the all-vinyl Perma-Shield gliding door, the wood Narroline gliding door in two or four panels, and a fiberglass hinged inswing door. The 400 Series has the Frenchwood gliding and hinged patio doors, wood inside and vinyl-clad outside. Home Depot, lumberyards and Andersen dealers in the Twin Cities sell them. Homeowners buy one and then need someone to put it in. We are an independent installer: we do not sell Andersen and we do not speak for the factory. We install the door to the instructions in the box.

A patio door is the heaviest, widest door on the house and it sits at floor level in the weather. The sill has to be fully supported and level, the frame square and flat, and the opening flashed so water that gets past the sill drains back out. On a gliding door, the panel rollers are adjustable, and they get adjusted until the panel glides and the lock meets its keeper. On a hinged Frenchwood door, the frame has to be dead square so the panels meet evenly and the weatherstrip seals.

Before you order, send a photo of the old door from inside and outside and a tape across the opening. We check the size, the wall depth for the jamb and extension jambs, and which side the active panel goes on.

Three photos and a sentence is enough: a reply within one business day, or ask for a free in-home estimate. Or text the photos to 763-204-2099.

Photos (optional)

Up to 3: one wide shot of the area, one close-up of the opening or trim, one of anything you're unsure about.

How do you want your quote?

Free, no obligation. Every quote is written and itemized, so you can compare it line by line.

What you supply

  • The Andersen patio door, in the size, handing and series you chose
  • Extension jambs from Andersen if you ordered them, or we make them
  • The handle set if it shipped separately
  • Paint or stain choice for a wood interior, if you want it finished

What JMB supplies

  • A check of your Andersen order against the opening before it is final
  • Removal and haul-away of the old patio door and trim
  • Sill and subfloor rot repair, quoted from the photos first
  • Sill pan, flashing tape, shims, low-expansion foam and exterior sealant
  • Frame set level, square and flat; rollers or hinges, lock and screen adjusted
  • Extension jambs and interior casing, exterior trim or brickmould
  • Photos of the finished door in your job folder
  • Finishing a wood interior as its own line on the quote

How it is priced: per door

Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:

  • Gliding door vs. a hinged Frenchwood pair, which takes more fitting
  • Two-panel vs. four-panel door
  • Same-size swap vs. an opening resized for the new door
  • Rot at the sill or rim once the old door is out
  • Siding, stucco or brick around the opening
  • Extension jambs made on site vs. supplied with the door
  • Finishing a wood interior, quoted as a separate line

Send the Andersen order or the label on the crate, photos of the old door from both sides, and a tape across the opening.

How long it takes

One gliding door in a same-size opening: most of a day. A hinged Frenchwood door, four-panel door or a resized opening: a day or more.

Situations and options

100 Series gliding door

Fibrex composite frame and panels. Sold through Home Depot and lumberyards. Same sill pan and flashing as any slider; the frame is set square and the panel rollers adjusted.

200 Series Perma-Shield and Narroline gliding doors

The all-vinyl Perma-Shield door or the wood Narroline door in two or four panels. Rollers are adjustable; four-panel units need a long, level sill.

200 Series hinged inswing door

Fiberglass panels in a hinged unit that swings into the room. Set square so the panels meet and the lock throws without lifting.

400 Series Frenchwood gliding and hinged doors

Wood interior, Perma-Shield vinyl-clad exterior. The wood interior stays dry and can be finished on site as its own line.

Andersen Patio Door Installation, Labor Only — Gliding and Frenchwood: questions, answered

Who installs Andersen gliding doors I bought myself?

JMB Builders installs Andersen gliding and hinged patio doors bought at Home Depot, a lumberyard or an Andersen dealer, labor only, across the Twin Cities metro. We are an independent licensed Minnesota contractor, not an Andersen dealer or certified installer. We install to the instructions that ship with the door. Priced per door, quoted from photos, with a reply within one business day.

How do you install an Andersen 200 Series patio door?

The old door comes out and the opening is checked for rot and square. A sill pan goes down, flashing tape is lapped at the sides and head, and the frame is set on a fully supported, level sill and shimmed square and flat. Then the panels, rollers and lock are adjusted, the gaps foamed and sealed, and the door trimmed inside and out.

Can you install an Andersen Frenchwood door?

Yes, both the Frenchwood gliding and hinged doors. The hinged version takes more fitting because the panels only meet and seal evenly when the frame is square in every direction. The wood interior is kept dry during the install and can be stained or painted as a separate line.

Are you an Andersen certified installer?

No. We are an independent installer and a licensed Minnesota residential building contractor, BC809005. We do not sell Andersen and cannot speak to Andersen's warranty terms; read the paperwork that came with the door. We install it to the printed instructions and stand behind our own workmanship.

What should I check before ordering an Andersen patio door?

The size against the rough opening, the handing (which panel moves or swings), and the wall depth so the extension jambs reach the drywall. Send a photo of the old door from inside and outside with a tape across the opening, and the order or quote. We check it before you commit.

Do you install Andersen 100 Series patio doors from Home Depot?

Yes. The 100 Series gliding door is sold through Home Depot and lumberyards, and we install it the same as one bought anywhere else. It goes in the same way as any slider: sill pan, flashing, frame set square, rollers and lock adjusted, trim inside and out.
