Andersen storm door installation across the Twin Cities metro, labor only: you buy the Andersen storm door at Home Depot or another store and JMB Builders hangs it. We are an independent installer, not an Andersen dealer. We set the handing, mount the hinge-side frame plumb on the entry trim, fit the top and latch rails, cut the bottom sweep to the sill, and set the closer so it latches. Priced per door, quoted from photos.
- Priced per door, labor only
- Full-view, ventilating and retractable-screen models
- Independent installer, not an Andersen dealer

Andersen storm doors are sold at Home Depot and other stores in several series, with the series number on the box: full-view doors with a glass panel you swap for a screen, ventilating doors with a sliding glass panel, and models with a screen that rolls up out of sight. Homeowners pick one out, bring it home and find a box of frame pieces, a closer kit and a bag of screws. We install it as a labor-only job. We are an independent installer, not an Andersen dealer; we do not sell the door, we hang the one you bought.
Every storm door goes together in the same order, and the order matters. The handing is decided first, usually hinges on the same side as the entry door's hinges. The hinge-side frame is mounted plumb, even when the brickmould is not, with shims behind it where the trim dips. The door hangs on it. Then the top and latch-side rails are fitted for even gaps, the bottom sweep or expander is cut to follow the sill, and the closer and handle are set so the door shuts without slamming and latches the first time.
Before you buy, measure the opening width between the entry door trim at the top, middle and bottom, and the height from the sill to the underside of the top trim. Send those and a straight-on photo of the entry, and we tell you which size to bring home. The trim matters too: rotted or missing trim gets fixed before the door goes on.

What you supply
- The Andersen storm door, in the size for your opening, with the handle and closer that came in the box
- The handing you want, usually hinges on the same side as the entry door
- Paint color for any new exterior trim, if the trim has to be replaced first
What JMB supplies
- A check of your opening size against the box before you buy
- Removal and haul-away of the old storm door and its frame
- Assembly, handing, and the frame cut and fitted to your opening
- Shims behind the hinge-side frame where the trim is not flat, screws into solid wood
- Closer, handle, latch and any screen mechanism mounted and adjusted
- Trim repair or a new mounting surface when the entry trim is rotted or missing
- Photos of the finished door in your job folder
- Painting any new trim as its own line on the quote
How it is priced: per door
Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:
- A basic full-view or ventilating door vs. a retractable-screen model with more parts
- An old storm door to remove first, with its screw holes filled
- Condition of the entry trim: square and solid vs. rotted or narrow
- A sill that is not level, which changes how the sweep is cut
- Vinyl siding with no wood trim, which needs a mounting surface built first
- Two storm doors in one visit, front and back
Send a straight-on photo of the entry from outside, a close-up of the trim on one side, and the Andersen box label or model number.
How long it takes
One Andersen storm door on a square opening: two to three hours. A retractable-screen model or an opening that needs trim repair: half a day.

Situations and options
Full-view doors
One large glass panel you swap for a screen in summer. The glass makes the door heavy, so the hinge-side frame gets screws into solid wood and the closer is set for the weight.
Ventilating doors
A glass panel that slides down over a screen. Lighter and quicker to hang, and common on back doors.
Retractable-screen models
The screen rolls up into the door when you do not need it. The frame has to be plumb and square or the screen tracks crooked, so we check it before hanging and run the screen several times before we leave.
Entries with no wood trim
Some vinyl-sided houses have only J-channel around the entry door, and nothing a storm door frame can screw into. We build a PVC or wood mounting surface first, then hang the door on it.
Andersen Storm Door Installation — We Hang the Andersen You Bought: questions, answered
Who installs Andersen storm doors?
JMB Builders installs Andersen storm doors homeowners have bought at Home Depot or other stores, labor only, across the Twin Cities metro. We are an independent licensed Minnesota contractor, not an Andersen dealer. We assemble the door, set the handing, mount the frame plumb, hang it and adjust the closer and handle. Priced per door, quoted from photos, with a reply within one business day.
Can you install an Andersen 3000 Series storm door?
Yes, and the other Andersen series too. The install is the same order for each: handing, hinge-side frame plumb, door hung, rails fitted, sweep cut to the sill, closer and handle set. Send the box label or model number with a photo of the entry and we price it.
What size Andersen storm door do I need?
Measure the width between the inside edges of the entry door trim at the top, middle and bottom, and the height from the sill to the underside of the top trim on both sides. Use the smallest numbers. The storm door frame adjusts a small amount to cover the difference; if your numbers land between sizes or the opening is badly out of square, send them before you buy.
Do I need to buy anything besides the Andersen storm door?
Usually not. Most storm doors ship with the frame, closer, handle and screws. Some handle sets are sold separately so you can pick a finish, and the box or store listing says so. Open the box before install day if you can and check the parts list.
Can an Andersen storm door go on a door with rotted trim?
Not until the trim is fixed. The hinge-side frame and closer bracket need solid wood or PVC behind them. We replace the rotted brickmould or trim first, quoted as its own line, then hang the storm door on it.
How long does it take to install an Andersen storm door?
Two to three hours for a standard door on a square, solid opening. A retractable-screen model, an old door to remove first, or trim to repair adds time, up to about half a day.
