Hail dented the front door, cracked the storm door glass, chewed up the patio door cladding and dented the garage entry.

When hail damaged every exterior door on the house, JMB Builders documents each one, from the front entry and sidelites to the garage entry, patio and storm doors, with scaled photos and a line per door. You file and deal with your insurer. Once approved, the doors are ordered together and installed on one schedule. Twin Cities metro, priced per door. Book a free in-home estimate, or send photos for a reply within one business day.

  • Priced per door, each its own line
  • Every door documented with scaled photos
  • Ordered together, installed on one schedule

A storm that comes in hard from one direction damages the doors on those sides. A storm with swirling wind and big stones can hit every door on the house: steel entry doors dented, storm doors bent with the glass cracked, patio door cladding and screens torn, the garage entry door pocked, sidelite glass broken. Each kind of door fails differently, so each needs its own line, and the claim is easier to follow when all of them are written up together instead of found one at a time.

We walk the house door by door. Each door gets a number and an elevation, and the damage is photographed in raking light with a scale reference. The scope lists what each door needs: a new slab, a whole prehung unit, a new storm door, patio door panel or cladding, screens, hardware, trim and paint. Doors on a side the storm did not hit are listed as not damaged; that keeps the scope honest and easy for the adjuster to accept. You file the claim and deal with your insurer. We meet the adjuster when you want us there. Coverage, deductibles and deadlines are questions for your policy and your agent.

Once the scope is approved, every door is measured in person and they go on one order, so the finish and hardware match. Installs run one or two doors a day, each opening closed and locking before the crew leaves, with floors covered at every door. If you want to upgrade a door beyond what the claim covers, that is a separate line you pay, not part of the claim.

Three photos and a sentence is enough: a reply within one business day, or ask for a free in-home estimate. Or text the photos to 763-204-2099.

Photos (optional)

Up to 3: one wide shot of the area, one close-up of the opening or trim, one of anything you're unsure about.

How do you want your quote?

Free, no obligation. Every quote is written and itemized, so you can compare it line by line.

What you supply

  • Your claim number and adjuster's contact
  • Photos of each door from outside, and the date of the storm
  • Your choices on color, glass and hardware for the new doors
  • Access to each door on its install day

What JMB supplies

  • Every exterior door numbered by elevation, photographed with a scale reference
  • A line-item scope per door: slab, prehung unit, storm door, patio panel, screen, hardware, trim
  • A walk with your adjuster when you want us there
  • One in-person measure of every door, then one order so finish and hardware match
  • Each door set in a sill pan with flashing, or a slab fitted to a sound frame
  • One or two doors a day, each closed and locking before we leave
  • Upgrades priced as separate lines; painting quoted as its own line, or paint it yourself
  • A final invoice matched to the approved scope, with finished photos

How it is priced: per door

Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:

  • Number and type of doors damaged
  • Slab only vs. whole prehung unit per door
  • Storm doors, sidelites and patio door panels or cladding
  • Hardware and locksets transferred or replaced
  • Painting of new steel doors and trim
  • Upgrades you choose beyond the approved scope
  • Brand and line; the lead time depends on the brand and is written on the quote

Send one photo of each door in low sun so the dents show, and your claim number if you have one. We reply within one business day.

How long it takes

Documentation: one visit. Then the insurer's review and the doors' lead time. Install runs one or two doors a day; a house with five or six doors takes about three to four days.

Situations and options

Every door replaced

Entry, back, garage entry, patio and storm doors all on one order. One finish color and hardware set, installed on one schedule.

Mix of slabs and units

Where a frame is sound, a new slab is fitted to it. Where the frame or sill is damaged or rotted, the whole unit is replaced. Each door's line says which.

Doors with the windows

When the same storm took windows too, doors and windows can go on one documented scope and one schedule, so the house is finished in one round.

Hail Damaged Every Exterior Door — One Claim, Every Door Listed: questions, answered

Does hail damage to every exterior door go on one claim?

Usually it is all part of the same storm claim on your homeowner policy, listed door by door. How your insurer handles it is a question for your policy and your agent. A scope that lists every door at once keeps the adjuster from having to come back for doors found later.

Which doors get damaged by hail?

Steel entry and garage service doors dent. Aluminum storm doors bend and the glass cracks. Patio doors lose cladding, screens and sometimes glass. Fiberglass resists dents but can chip or crack. Doors on the sides the storm hit take the most.

Can a hail dented steel door be repaired?

Not well. The steel skin is thin over a foam core with nothing behind it to push against, so dents stay. Filling and painting shows in low light. The usual fix is a new slab if the frame is sound, or a whole unit if not.

Will all my new doors match after a hail claim?

When they are measured once and ordered together, yes: one finish color and one hardware set. If you want a style or material beyond what the claim covers, that is priced as a separate line you pay.

Can a contractor cover my deductible on a door claim?

No. Minnesota law, Minn. Stat. 325E.66, bars a residential contractor from promising to pay or rebate any part of the deductible, and JMB does not.

Do you handle my insurance claim for the doors?

No. You file the claim and deal with your insurer. We document every door, write the scope, meet the adjuster when you want us there and do the repair. Negotiating a claim on your behalf is the work of a licensed public adjuster.
