A hail storm marks everything on the weather side of the house, not just the roof. Aluminum trim coil on window and door wraps dents. Fascia wrap dents. Vinyl shutters crack. Plastic vent covers, light blocks and dryer vent hoods get punched through. Painted wood casing and brickmould get split paint and chipped edges that let water in. The adjuster lists most of it as separate line items on the scope, and a lot of it never gets done because the roofer does not do trim.
We do the trim line items. Send us the scope and photos, and we quote the trim items on it as one project: pulling the dented wraps and re-bending new coil, replacing shutters in kind, swapping the punched vents and blocks, and replacing split wood casing or brickmould in PVC or primed LP. Each item gets a photo before and after so the file matches the scope.
We are not a public adjuster and we do not negotiate the claim. What we do is give you a written estimate for the trim scope that reads the way the adjuster's does, so a supplement for missed items has something to stand on. The roof and siding stay with the roofing and siding crews; we coordinate the timing so the trim goes on after the siding and before the gutters, where it belongs in the order.

Situations and options
Aluminum wrap replacement
Dented window, door and fascia wraps are pulled, the wood under them is checked and repaired if needed, and new coil is bent on site to the same profile in the matching color. Seams and drip caps done the same as new work.
Shutters and vents in kind
Cracked shutters, punched gable vents, dryer hoods, light blocks and vent covers replaced with the same style and size in the siding or trim color, mounted with new fasteners into solid backing.
Wood casing and brickmould
Wood trim with hail-split paint and chipped edges is replaced in PVC or primed LP, with a drip cap at the head and sealed ends, rather than patched and repainted. Painting is a separate line.
Trim estimate for a supplement
The adjuster missed items or paid to paint what needs replacing. We write the trim scope item by item with photos so you or your roofer can submit a supplement. No claim negotiation, just a clear estimate.

Does homeowners insurance cover hail damaged trim?
Usually the same claim that covers the roof and siding lists trim items too: aluminum wraps, fascia wrap, shutters, vents and painted wood trim that hail split. Whether an item is covered and what it pays is the adjuster's call and your policy's terms, and we do not decide that. What we do is replace the items on the scope, photograph them, and write an estimate for anything the adjuster may have missed so it can be submitted.
Who fixes the trim after a hail claim if the roofer does not?
A trim carpenter. Roofers do roofs, siding crews do siding, and the wraps, shutters, vents and casings on the scope often fall between them. JMB Builders does the trim line items as one project across the Twin Cities metro: wraps re-bent in coil, shutters and vents replaced in kind, wood trim replaced in PVC or LP, with photos of every item for the file.
Can hail dented aluminum window wrap be repaired instead of replaced?
Not in any way that lasts. Dents in trim coil cannot be pulled out flat, and painting over them leaves the dents. The wrap is pulled, the wood behind it is checked, and new coil is bent to the same profile in the matching color. It is the same work as a new wrap and usually what the scope pays for.
Will you write an estimate for the insurance adjuster?
Yes. We write the trim items the way the scope is laid out, one line per item with a photo, so it can go to the adjuster as a supplement or be compared to what was paid. We are not a public adjuster and do not negotiate with the carrier; the estimate is a contractor's estimate for the work, which is what the adjuster needs to see.
When should the trim be done on a storm repair?
After the roof and siding and before the gutters go back on. Window and door wraps go on after the siding so the siding laps over them correctly, and fascia wrap has to be on before the gutters hang. If the siding is not being replaced, the trim can go any time. We coordinate the date with your roofer and siding crew.
Do you replace hail damaged shutters?
Yes. Vinyl shutters crack at the louvers and the mounting pins, and composite ones chip. We replace them in the same style and size in a stock color, or the closest match on an older color, and mount them with new fasteners into solid backing so they do not rattle. If you want a different style while they are off, that is the time to change.
