Hanging doors in a new house is a production job. The package shows up as a stack of prehung units, a bundle of casing and a box of hardware, and the difference between a good crew and a bad one shows up at the one-year walkthrough: doors that latch, reveals that stay even, casing miters that did not open. We run that scope as a subcontractor for builders and framers who want the doors done by a crew that does nothing else that day.
The way we hang a door is the same on every door. Check the rough opening and the floor for level. Set the unit, plumb the hinge jamb, shim behind every hinge and behind the strike, and screw through the hinge jamb into the framing so the door cannot sag. Set the reveals even around the slab, then case both sides in the spec profile with tight miters, nailed and ready for the painter. Hardware goes on last, strikes adjusted so the door latches without slamming.
Bifolds, bypass closet doors and pocket doors are on the same rate sheet, because a door crew that skips them leaves the builder finding someone else for the closets. Cased openings and attic access are line items. We can run base too, or leave it for your base crew, and we send photos of every door so your super can check the house without driving to it.

- Base run with the doors vs. left for another crew
- Houses per month from the same builder, which sets the standing rate
Send the door schedule and the casing spec. That is enough for a per-door rate on the house, and the rate holds for the next house if the spec is the same.

How much does a door hanging crew charge per door?
It is a per-door rate set by the door type and the casing spec: a prehung swing door with flat casing is the base rate, wide mitered casing, solid-core slabs, pockets and hardware each move it. We do not publish a number because the spec changes it; send the door schedule and the casing profile and you get a per-door rate for the house within a business day. The rate holds house to house on the same spec.
How many doors can your crew hang in a day?
Enough to do a typical single-family house in one to two days with casing and hardware. A crew that only hangs doors moves faster than a trim carpenter fitting the doors in between everything else, because the setup, the shim stock and the rhythm are the same door after door. Pocket doors and cased openings take longer than swing doors and we plan for them.
What do you need on site before the door crew shows up?
The door package delivered and inside, drywall finished and dry, floors clean enough to set a door on and level enough to hang one, and the schedule with handing and hardware per opening. If the base is going in with the doors, the base stock is there too. If the openings were framed off the schedule, tell us before the day so we bring the material to fix it rather than finding out on site.
Do you install the door hardware too?
Yes, when the builder wants it on the same visit. Knobs or levers, passage and privacy, deadbolts on the garage entry, strikes set so every door latches without slamming, closet door pulls and guides. Some builders have a locksmith or the hardware supplier set it later; either way is on the rate sheet.
What happens if a door does not latch at the one-year walkthrough?
We come back and fix it. Doors that stop latching in the first year are usually the house settling or the hinge screws going only into the jamb, which is why we screw through the hinge jamb into the framing on every door. When a builder sends us the walkthrough list, we handle our doors and any other trim items on it as a warranty visit with photos.
