Entry door replacement in St. Cloud, MN, with JMB Builders is a whole prehung unit: we measure the opening and wall depth, order a steel or fiberglass door with the glass and swing you want, tear out the old door and frame, rebuild a rotted threshold area, set the new unit on a sill pan with flashing, seal it, and trim it inside and out. Priced per door.
- Priced per door, frame and door together
- Threshold and subfloor rot rebuilt
- Photo quote or a free in-home estimate

St. Cloud's housing runs from century-old homes near downtown and the university to 1990s-and-newer houses on the south side, and front doors fail differently across that range. Older homes often have a heavy wood door in a frame that has moved over the decades, so it sticks in summer and gaps in winter. Newer homes usually have a steel builder door whose bottom edge has rusted and whose threshold sits on soft subfloor.
Harder central Minnesota winters find every gap. A door that lets light through at the corners or frosts at the lock is leaking at the weatherstrip, the threshold or both, and new weatherstrip only helps if the frame is still square. When it is not, the whole unit comes out.
We take the old door and frame out to the studs, cut back rot to sound wood, lay a sill pan, tape the sides and head, and set a new prehung door plumb, square and tight to its seals. Brickmould goes on outside and casing inside. We can paint or stain the door and trim as its own line on the quote, or it stays primed and caulked for you to paint.

How it is priced: per door
Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:
- Steel or fiberglass, and the glass insert
- Single door vs. sidelites or a transom
- Standard size vs. an older non-standard opening
- How much rot is under the old threshold
- Exterior finish around the door: siding, brick or stucco
- Painting or staining, quoted as its own line
Photos of both sides of the door, the threshold and jamb bottoms close up, and a measurement across the opening if you have a tape.
How long it takes
A single entry door: half a day to most of a day. Sidelites or rot repair add time. The door is ordered once the quote is approved, and the opening is closed up the same day.

Entry Door Replacement in St. Cloud, MN — Prehung Units: questions, answered
Why does my St. Cloud front door let in light at the corners?
The frame has moved out of square or the weatherstrip has flattened, so the door no longer meets its seal. On older homes the house itself has settled; on newer ones the hinge side may have sagged. If adjusting the hinges and strike does not close the gap, a new prehung unit is the fix.
Can a new front door fit my older St. Cloud home?
Yes. Older homes often have openings that are not a stock size. We either order a door to the opening or frame the opening to a stock size and trim it so the change does not show, and the quote says which one fits your house.
Is steel or fiberglass better for a St. Cloud entry door?
Both have an insulated foam core. Steel costs less but dents and can rust at the bottom edge. Fiberglass resists dents and rust and can take a stain, which suits a door that faces the weather.
Do I need a permit to replace my front door in St. Cloud?
Many cities treat a same-size swap as maintenance, but it depends on the job. We check with the City of St. Cloud building department and pull a permit when one is required, such as when the opening is changed.
Do you replace entry doors in Sauk Rapids and Sartell?
Yes. We replace entry doors in Sauk Rapids, Sartell and around St. Cloud from our base in Zimmerman, and we group trips up Highway 10 into full working days.
How do I get a quote for a new entry door in St. Cloud?
Photos of both faces of the door plus the threshold up close are enough to start, and you hear back within one business day. Or book a free in-home estimate and we measure the opening in person. The quote lists the door, the install and any rot repair separately.
