Entry door replacement in Buffalo, MN: JMB Builders measures the opening, orders a prehung steel or fiberglass entry door with the glass, color and swing you choose, takes out the old door and frame, repairs rot at the sill, sets the new unit in a pan with flashing and a tight weatherstrip, and trims it. Built for the wind lake-side homes take. One price per door; we answer photo requests within one business day.
- Priced per door, door included
- Weatherstrip and sill set for wind
- Old in-town openings measured to fit

Entry doors built for wind exposure are one of the standard jobs we do in Buffalo. On a lot that faces Buffalo Lake or Lake Pulaski, or any open lot where weather comes straight at the front of the house, a door's weatherstrip and threshold take a beating. Once the frame has moved even a little, the door stops seating against its seal and air pours past it.
Replacing the whole prehung unit fixes that at the source. The new frame is shimmed plumb and square, the door closes evenly against a fresh compression weatherstrip, and the sill sits in a pan with flashing lapped over it, so wind-driven rain that gets under the threshold drains back out instead of into the subfloor.
Buffalo's older in-town homes, some dating to the early 1900s, bring openings that are not a standard size and casing worth keeping. We measure the rough opening behind the trim and order the door to fit, then reset the original casing or match it. In the 1990s to 2010s neighborhoods the door is usually a standard size and the swap is quicker.

- Rot repair at the sill, jamb feet and subfloor, quoted from what we find
- Sill pan, flashing tape, low-expansion foam and sealant
- Compression weatherstrip and threshold adjusted so the door seals evenly

- Brickmould or exterior trim and interior casing, original casing reset where it is sound
- Photos of the finished door in your job folder
How it is priced: per door
Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:
- Steel vs. fiberglass, and the glass lites
- Standard size vs. an older opening the door is ordered to fit
- Rot at the sill and subfloor once the old door is out
- Sidelites, a transom or a storm door in the same opening
- Saving original casing vs. new trim
- Hardware: lockset, handle set or smart lock
Send photos of the whole door from both sides and the threshold. Tell us which way the door faces; it helps us pick the weatherstrip and finish.
How long it takes
One entry door: about a day on site, longer when the sill needs rebuilding. The door is ordered once you approve the quote.

Wind-Tight Entry Door Replacement in Buffalo, MN: questions, answered
Do you replace front doors in Buffalo, MN?
Yes. Buffalo is in our regular Wright County service area, and we installed in Buffalo this June. We replace front, side and back entry doors, door included. Send pictures of the old door for a reply within one business day, or ask for a free in-home estimate.
Why is my front door drafty even with new weatherstripping?
The frame has usually moved, so the door no longer closes evenly against the seal. New weatherstrip on a racked frame touches in some spots and gaps in others. Replacing the prehung unit lets us set a new frame square so the door seats against the seal all the way around.
What entry door holds up on a lake lot?
Fiberglass resists denting and does not mind wet weather, which suits a door facing the lake. An insulated steel door is a solid choice when it is kept painted. On a windy side, how the door is set — square, sealed and in a sill pan — matters as much as the material.
Can you fit a new door into an old house in downtown Buffalo?
Yes. Older openings are often not a standard size, so we measure the rough opening once the casing is off and order the door to fit. The original casing is reset when it comes off clean, or we match it.
Does replacing an entry door need a permit in Buffalo?
A same-size swap and a change to the opening are often handled differently. We check with the City of Buffalo building department and pull a permit when it is required.
Do you work in Albertville and Monticello as well?
Yes. Albertville, Monticello, Delano and Annandale are all close to Buffalo and in our service area, with the same crew and the same install steps.
