Siding, Soffit, Fascia and Gutter Package — The Whole Exterior at Once
The siding, the peeling soffits, the rusting fascia and the sagging gutters are all the same age, and doing them one at a time means three contractors working around each other.
A siding, soffit, fascia and gutter package puts everything on the outside of the house into one job: old siding and eaves off, sheathing and fascia board repaired, house wrap and flashing, new siding, vented aluminum soffit and fascia wrap, then seamless gutters hung last. JMB Builders does it on Twin Cities houses as one quote with one color plan. Licensed MN contractor BC809005, priced per project. Photo quote or free in-home estimate.

Siding, soffit, fascia and gutters wear out together because they went on together. If you replace just the siding, the gutter installer later has to pull and re-hang gutters over your new fascia; if you do gutters first, the siding crew has to take them down to get the fascia wrapped. Done as one job, the order is set by the water: fascia and soffit are repaired and wrapped, the walls are sided up to the new soffit, and the gutters go on last against finished fascia with the drip edge tucked behind them.
The eave is where the work hides. Rotted fascia board behind a gutter is the most common thing we find, and wrapping aluminum over soft wood is how it got that way the first time. We replace what is rotted, check the drip edge at the roof, then wrap the fascia and hang vented soffit panels so the attic can breathe. On a Minnesota house, vented soffit paired with a clear path into the attic is part of how you stop ice dams at the eave line; blocked soffits and a warm attic are how you get them.
The gutters come last for a reason. Seamless aluminum gutters are hung on the finished fascia with hidden hangers into the rafter tails, pitched to the downspouts, and the downspouts are placed where the new siding has blocks or trim to take the straps. Kick-out flashing at every roof-to-wall spot is already in from the siding stage, so the water that runs down the wall ends up in the gutter and not behind the siding. One color plan covers the siding, the trim, the soffit, the fascia and the gutters so it reads as one house.

How it is priced: per project
Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:
- Squares of siding and stories, which set the staging and the bulk of the job
- Linear feet of eave and rake for soffit and fascia, and the soffit depth
- How much fascia board and sub-fascia is rotted and has to be replaced before wrapping
- Linear feet of gutter, number of downspouts, and oversized gutters on long or steep roof runs
- Gutter guards, downspout extensions or buried drain connections
- Siding material and trim level
- Gable count and roof-to-wall intersections that need kick-outs
Send a photo straight up at the eave and one of the inside of a gutter if you can reach it safely. Those show the fascia condition and the gutter age.
How long it takes
A one-story house: about a week and a half for all of it. A two-story: two to two and a half weeks. Gutters are the last day.

Situations and options
Full package
Siding, trim, soffit, fascia and gutters on the whole house. One mobilization, one dumpster, one color plan. The order is fascia and soffit repairs, siding to the soffit line, then gutters.
Siding plus eaves, keep the gutters
When the gutters are newer and sound, they come down for the fascia work and go back up on the new fascia with new hangers. We check the pitch while they are off.
Eaves and gutters, siding later
Soffit, fascia and gutters now; the siding when the budget allows. The soffit F-channel is set so the future siding tucks under it without redoing the eave.
Package with gutter guards
Micro-mesh or screen guards fitted to the new gutters before we leave. Worth it under oaks and maples; the guards are matched to the gutter profile so they sit flat under the shingle edge.
Siding, Soffit, Fascia and Gutter Package — The Whole Exterior at Once: questions, answered
What order should siding, soffit, fascia and gutters be done in?
Old gutters off, then the fascia and soffit repaired and wrapped, then the siding on the walls up to the new soffit, then the gutters hung last on the finished fascia. Doing gutters earlier means taking them down again for the fascia; doing siding before the eaves means the soffit channel has to be fitted over finished siding. One job in that order is the clean way.
Can you wrap the fascia in aluminum if the wood behind it is rotted?
We will not. Rotted fascia board gets cut out and replaced with new lumber or sub-fascia first, and then the aluminum goes over sound wood. Wrapping over rot hides it for a few years until the gutter hangers pull out. Most of the rot is behind the gutter at the downspout corners and anywhere the roof drip edge was missing.
Does new vented soffit help with ice dams?
It helps when the air can get from the soffit vent into the attic and up to the ridge or roof vents. Vented soffit with insulation jammed against the roof deck behind it does nothing. While the soffit is open we look for baffles and a clear path at the eave. Ice dams are mostly a warm-attic problem; the soffit is one piece of the fix, and we will tell you if the attic needs more than that.
Can the gutters be moved or downspouts added during the package?
Yes, and this is the time to do it. A downspout that dumps on a walk or next to the foundation can be moved to a better corner, and a long run can get a second downspout so it stops overflowing in a heavy rain. The siding gets blocks or trim where the new straps land, so nothing is screwed through a panel later.
Do the gutters, fascia and siding have to be the same color?
No, but they should be planned together. The common plan is siding in one color, soffit and fascia in the trim color, and gutters matching the fascia so they disappear. Aluminum soffit, fascia and gutters come in the same color families, so a match is easy when they are chosen at the same time. Choosing gutters a year later is how you get an almost-match.
How long does the full exterior package take?
About a week and a half for a one-story house and two to two and a half weeks for a two-story, with one crew. The eave repairs and soffit go in as each wall is done, and the gutters are hung on the last day once every fascia run is finished. Weather days stretch it; nothing is left open overnight.
