Most interior painting is prep. The paint goes on in a couple of hours; the day is spent pulling nails and hooks, filling and sanding the holes, skimming the dents, caulking the gap where the ceiling meets the wall, and spot-priming everything that was filled so it does not flash through the finish. A room that skips that looks fine the day it is painted and shows every patch a week later in afternoon light.
We paint walls and ceilings by brush and roller: cut in at the ceiling line, the corners and the trim, then rolled in two coats so the color is even. Ceilings get a flat ceiling paint; walls get an eggshell or matte that can be wiped. Trim in the room is a separate line if you want it done at the same time, and it is covered on its own page.
Whole-house jobs run room by room in an order that keeps a bedroom and a bathroom usable every night. Empty houses before a move-in or a sale go fastest: no furniture to move, and we can spray the ceilings and roll the walls floor by floor.
What you supply
- The color and sheen for each room, or the name of a color you have seen and we pull the sample
- Furniture pulled to the middle of the room, or tell us and we move and cover it
- Pictures, shelves and curtain rods down, or we take them down and bag the hardware
- A choice on the nail holes: fill them all, or leave the ones you will rehang on

How it is priced: per room

- Room size and ceiling height; vaulted rooms and stairwells take staging and more time on the cut-in
- Walls only vs. walls and ceiling; the ceiling is its own line so you can leave it if it is fine
- Condition of the walls: a few nail holes vs. picture-hook clusters, cracks and old patches that need skimming
- Color change: dark to light or light to dark usually means a primer coat or a third coat
- How much furniture has to be moved and covered, and whether the room is empty
- Number of rooms in one visit; a whole house is priced per room with one setup
- Trim and doors in the same room, quoted as their own line
Send one photo per room from the doorway and one of the worst wall. Say the color if you know it and whether the ceiling is included. That is enough for a per-room number.
How long it takes
One bedroom, walls and ceiling: one day. A whole floor of a typical house: three to five days, rooms done in sequence so you can sleep in one every night. Empty houses go faster.

Situations and options
One room
A bedroom, office or nursery. Walls and ceiling, or walls only. Everything moved to the middle and covered, patched, two coats, back together before we leave.
Kitchen and bathroom walls
Grease and steam rooms. Walls washed before anything else, a stain-blocking primer where needed, and a scrubbable satin or semi-gloss that stands up to wiping.
Whole-house interior
Every wall and ceiling on a floor or in the house, one color or a plan per room. Sequenced so a bedroom and bathroom are always usable. Trim and doors added as their own line if you want the whole interior done once.
Empty house before move-in or sale
The fastest version: no furniture, ceilings sprayed, walls rolled, one neutral color throughout if that is the goal. Usually the last job before the carpet or the photos.
Accent wall or color change
One wall in a strong color, or a dark room going light. The primer coat is what makes these work; a dark color over light with no primer shows the roller lap marks.

How do you prep walls before painting?
Nails and hooks come out, every hole gets filled and sanded flush, dents and cracks get a skim coat, and the ceiling line and any cracked caulk at the trim get recaulked. Then every patch gets a spot primer so the finish coat does not show a dull spot where the filler soaked it up. Walls in kitchens and bathrooms get washed first. The prep is most of the day; the paint is the fast part.
Do you paint ceilings too?
Yes. The ceiling is its own line on the quote so you can include it or skip it. In a furnished room we roll it with a flat ceiling paint after cutting the edge; in an empty house we usually spray ceilings and then roll the walls. Water stains on a ceiling get a stain-blocking primer first or they bleed through any number of coats.
How many coats of paint do interior walls need?
Two coats of the finish color on almost every wall. One coat leaves lap marks and uneven sheen, especially in a room with a big window. A big color change, dark to light or light to a deep color, gets a tinted primer first and then the two coats. New drywall gets a primer coat before anything.
Can I stay in the house while you paint the interior?
Yes. We work one room or two at a time and put each one back together the same day, so a bedroom and a bathroom are always usable. The paints we use are low-odor waterborne, and the rooms are dry to the touch within a few hours. Most families keep living in the house through a whole-interior job.
Do you move the furniture?
We move it to the middle of the room and cover it, or into the next room if it is small enough. Big pieces, beds and dressers stay in the room under plastic. Pictures, shelves and curtain rods come down and the hardware goes in a labeled bag. Anything fragile or on a shelf, we ask you to box up first.
Do you paint the trim and doors when you paint the walls?
Trim and doors are a separate line on the quote, the same as on every job we do, so you can have the walls done alone or the whole room. When both are on the job we do the trim enamel first, let it cure, and then cut the wall color in against it; that gives the cleanest line. Doors come off and are sprayed flat so there are no brush marks.
