- Your paint color, if we are painting it; either way it goes in filled, caulked and primed
- Any molding you have already bought, if you have it (send a photo of the label)

- Panel molding, chair rail, cap and panel stock in primed MDF or finger-jointed pine
- Layout marked on your wall in pencil and tape so you approve the spacing before we cut
- Finish nails, construction adhesive, filler and paintable caulk at every seam
- Outlet and switch box extenders so cover plates sit flush on the new surface
- Skim coat or backing panels inside the frames when a textured wall needs it (quoted from photos)
- Cleanup and haul-away of cutoffs and packaging

How tall should wainscoting be?
Classic wainscoting typically lands around one-third of the wall height, while board-and-batten looks great anywhere from halfway up to full-height feature walls. During the estimate we'll mock up heights on your actual wall so you can see it before we build it.
Can you install wainscoting over textured walls?
Yes. Depending on the texture and the style you choose, we'll either work the trim directly onto the wall or recommend backing panels or skim coating for a flat, clean finish inside the panels. We'll tell you exactly what your walls need at the estimate.

What is the difference between wainscoting and board-and-batten?
Board-and-batten is one kind of wainscoting: vertical strips (battens) over a flat wall or panel, usually with a rail on top. Picture-frame molding is rectangles of applied molding on the drywall below a chair rail. Raised-panel or flat-panel wainscoting is true frame-and-panel work with stiles, rails and a panel inside each frame. All three are laid out the same way, wall by wall, and priced per wall; frame-and-panel takes the most time and material.
