Prefab surround kits are three or five panels, sometimes with a shelf or corner caddy, that glue to the walls around a tub or shower base. They go up fast. They fail when the walls behind them are soft, uneven or wet, and when the seams and the joint at the tub are not sealed the way the kit says. The glue holds only as well as the wall.
So the job starts with the old surround coming off and a look at the wall. Water-damaged drywall is cut out and replaced with the board the kit calls for, and the wall is made flat. Then the panels are dry-fit, cut for the valve and spout, glued, and the seams and tub joint sealed with the kit's sealant.
The valve, spout and showerhead come off and go back on. If the valve has to be moved, replaced or is leaking, that part is done by a licensed plumber before the panels go up. We tell you from the photos if that looks likely. A tiled surround has its own page.

Will you install a tub surround kit I bought?
Yes. We install acrylic and fiberglass surround kits from Menards, Home Depot, Lowe's or anywhere else, labor only. The old surround comes off, the walls are checked and fixed, and the panels are glued and sealed to the kit instructions.
Can a surround kit go over old tile?
Some kits allow it on sound, flat tile. Many do not, and loose tile or water behind it is a problem either way. We check your kit's instructions and the tile, and usually recommend taking the tile off.
What if the wall behind my old surround is rotted?
It gets cut out and replaced before the new panels go up. Gluing new panels over wet or soft wall traps the problem and the panels come loose. We quote the repair from photos and confirm when the old surround is off.
Do you move or replace the shower valve?
Moving or replacing a valve is done by a licensed plumber, before the panels go up. We remove and reset the existing trim, spout and showerhead as part of the job.
How long before I can use the shower after a surround install?
The adhesive and sealant need the cure time on the kit's instructions, often a day or more. We tell you when it is safe to use.
Can you install a surround kit around a window in the tub wall?
Yes, with the kit's window trim piece or a PVC return. A window in a shower wall is a leak point, so the sill is sloped and sealed. Replacing that window with a vinyl unit is sometimes worth doing at the same time.
