Screens are the part of a window hail hits first and the part that gets forgotten on a claim. A house can have twenty or thirty of them, on three or four sides, and the ones on the back or the second floor are easy to miss. Fiberglass mesh tears or stretches into a bag; aluminum frames take dents that bow the frame so it no longer sits in the channel.
So we start with a count. Every screen gets a number tied to its window, a size, a photo and a note: torn mesh, bent frame, or fine. You end up with one list for the whole house that you can hand your insurer, instead of a guess of how many are bad.
The repair is simple once the list is right. A frame that is still straight and square gets new mesh rolled in with new spline. A frame that is dented, bowed or has a cracked corner gets replaced with a new frame made to the same size, with the pull tabs, springs or clips your windows use. You file the claim and deal with your insurer; we give you the count and do the work once it is approved.

Situations and options
Rescreen the frame
The frame is straight and the corners are tight; only the mesh is torn or stretched. Old spline out, new mesh rolled in with new spline, trimmed clean. The screen goes back in the same window.
New frame
Hail bowed the frame, dented it deep enough to kink the channel, or cracked a corner. A new frame is made to the same size with the same hardware so it seats like the original.
Patio door screen

Should I list every window screen on the claim or only the torn ones?
Count them all, then mark which are damaged. A full count with sizes shows the adjuster the whole house was looked at, and it makes it easy to spot the screens on the back or the second floor that nobody walked to. Photograph each damaged screen close up and in its window so the location is clear.
Can a hail damaged screen be rescreened or does it need a new frame?
If the frame is straight, square and the corners are tight, new mesh and spline is all it needs. If the frame is bowed, kinked at the channel or cracked at a corner, new mesh will not hold tight and the screen will not seat, so it gets a new frame. We sort them screen by screen when we count.
Are dented screen frames hail damage if the mesh is not torn?
A dent that bows the frame or kinks the channel keeps the screen from sitting tight in the window, so bugs get around it. That is damage worth photographing with a tape next to it. Whether your policy pays for it is your insurer's call; the photo and the note give them what they need to decide.
Can window screens go on the same claim as the roof and siding?
Yes, when the same storm did the damage. Screens rarely clear a deductible alone, so they belong on the same claim as the rest of the storm damage. Give your insurer the full screen count with the rest of the list so they are not missed when the roof and siding get all the attention.
What screen mesh should I use when replacing hail damaged screens?
Standard charcoal fiberglass is what most windows came with and what a like-for-like claim covers. Pet-resistant mesh is thicker and stands up to claws. Solar mesh cuts heat on west and south windows. Fine mesh keeps out the smallest bugs near water. An upgrade beyond the original is yours to pay on top of the approved scope.
How do you keep the screens matched to the right windows?
Every screen gets a number that matches its window on the count sheet, written on a tag that stays on the frame until it goes back in. Screens that look the same can be a quarter inch apart, and that is the difference between a screen that seats and one that falls out.
