Older 8500 and 8600 units were sold with double-pane Low-E glass; a failed seal shows as fog between the panes and is the usual reason to replace the sash or the whole unit. Replacing them with V3 double-hungs in the Northern ENERGY STAR package, with a proper foam and interior air seal, gives a modest glass improvement and a much better seal at the frame.
