The E-Series is Andersen's made-to-order line: wood windows and doors protected by heavy-gauge extruded aluminum cladding, which is thicker and stronger than the roll-formed aluminum on many competitors. Choose from 50 standard exterior colors (up to four can be mixed for a multi-tone look), anodized finishes, or a custom color.
Interiors come in ten-plus wood species, including pine, oak, maple, alder, cherry, hickory, walnut, mahogany and two grains of Douglas fir, and Andersen will source other species on request; interiors can be unfinished, stained or painted in 14 interior colors. Sizes and shapes are custom, so the E-Series is the go-to for oversized units, unusual openings, historic replications and bold color matches.
E-Series windows can be ordered with triple-pane glass and Andersen's Low-E4®, HeatLock® and PassiveSun® coatings, so a custom look does not cost cold-weather performance; triple-pane on E-Series patio doors is confirmed per order.

Insulation and energy performance in Minnesota
The E-Series is wood inside with aluminum only as an exterior skin, so the frame keeps wood's insulating value while the cladding takes the weather. Because every unit is built to order, triple-pane with Low-E4 and HeatLock is a simple line item on the windows: that is what we recommend for Minnesota, with PassiveSun on shaded north walls if you want the solar gain.
Glass packages
- Low-E4® dual-pane with argon (standard)
- HeatLock® room-side coating for lower U-factor
- PassiveSun® glass for higher winter solar gain
- Triple-pane glass options on E-Series windows (confirm for patio doors)
- Tempered safety glass (standard on patio doors), laminated and patterned glass to order
Frame and sash
Solid wood frame and sash with heavy-gauge extruded aluminum cladding on the exterior; the aluminum is a skin over wood, not a structural thermal bridge. Casements, awnings and hinged doors compress against continuous weatherstripping; gliding units use interlocking weatherstripped meeting rails.
Ratings
ENERGY STAR® certification, including the Northern zone, is available with the right glass package on most configurations, and triple-pane units are specified for high-performance and passive-house projects. Because E-Series is custom, U-factors are given per order on the NFRC label.
What the install adds
On install day we set the unit on a sloped sill pan, tape the flanges or brickmould to the housewrap with flashing tape, fill the rough-opening gap with low-expansion foam, and seal the interior with backer rod and sealant before trim goes on. The exterior joint gets backer rod and sealant too, so the rating on the label is what the wall actually gets.
