The A-Series is Andersen's architectural collection, developed with architects to deliver historically and stylistically accurate windows for specific home styles, from farmhouse to contemporary. It combines a wood interior with an exterior of fiberglass and Fibrex® composite that Andersen states will not peel, blister, fade or corrode.
This is the line for custom homes, major renovations and projects where design fidelity matters as much as performance: 11 exterior colors that can be mixed across sash, frame and trim, six interior wood species (pine, maple, oak, cherry, mahogany and vertical-grain Douglas fir) with factory finishes on pine, maple and oak, custom grille profiles, and a full set of matching patio doors.
Triple-pane glass is an option on A-Series windows and doors, and it is the package to order for a Minnesota home that wants the lowest U-factors. Select A-Series windows were recognized as ENERGY STAR® Most Efficient in 2018.

Insulation and energy performance in Minnesota
The A-Series pairs a wood core with a fiberglass and Fibrex exterior, both low-conductivity materials, and it is the Andersen line where triple-pane is a normal order rather than a special one. For Minnesota, specify triple-pane with Low-E4 and HeatLock, or at minimum dual-pane Low-E4 SmartSun with HeatLock on the sunny sides.
Glass packages
- Low-E4® dual-pane with argon (standard)
- Low-E4® SmartSun™ and HeatLock® coating options
- PassiveSun® and Sun glass for exposure-specific tuning
- Optional triple-pane glass: Andersen's most energy-efficient glass option, offered on A-Series windows and doors
Frame and sash
Wood interior frame and sash with a fiberglass and Fibrex® composite exterior; no metal cladding to conduct cold. Casements and awnings compress against a continuous weatherstrip when locked; double-hung sash carry weatherstripping at jambs, sill and meeting rail.
Ratings
ENERGY STAR® certified options with the right glass package, including the Northern zone (Andersen offers a spacer option so full-divided-light units with SmartSun glass can certify there); select A-Series windows earned ENERGY STAR Most Efficient recognition in 2018. Confirm the ENERGY STAR version and U-factor for each unit on the NFRC label and in the A-Series product guide.
What the install adds
On install day we set the unit on a sloped sill pan, tape the flanges or brickmould to the housewrap with flashing tape, fill the rough-opening gap with low-expansion foam, and seal the interior with backer rod and sealant before trim goes on. The exterior joint gets backer rod and sealant too, so the rating on the label is what the wall actually gets.
